Aggression...Baron is getting bad need some advice

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of you have run into this with your Bully's.

Baron was very good when he was young, he loved people and was very well behaved, he is now just over 2 years old and

he hates people and other dogs, he just goes ballistic when he sees someone he doesn't know, he really goes into a red zone and if you

try to snap him out of it he will turn around and try to bite you.  He has done this with my husband a few times, not with me though.  A couple of weeks ago he met my sister for the first time, he wasn't expecting her to be in the house, he ran over and jumped up and proceeded to get very excited and bit her.

I'm not sure what I can do to fix this....I'm worried he is going to hurt someone else...

Think you need a

trainer.  Onslow loved EVERYONE until he was about 2.  Then something changed.  He is fine with people now unless they are a stranger to him and in our house (he is very protective of the house/car).  And since he was attacked by that pitbull, he acts a little more aggressive when encountering other dogs (hackles go up) but he has never has bitten a person or another dog.  I haven't brought him to a trainer, but I am very aware of "how he is" and we take measures to make sure he isn't put in a situation that is going to make him feel uncomfortable.

Wish I had better advice for you but since Baron is nipping I think a trainer is needed.  Hopefully Lynn K will respond.

Yeah Baron was fine, now he is horrible with strangers

I think your right about the trainer....I think it's gone to far to just leave it.

You absolutely need a trainer and right NOW!

I would NOT let this behavior continue for another day. He is going to seriously injure someone and you will not only be liable, but your dog could wind up euthanized. Seriously, not trying to frighten you, but this cannot go on for another day. I am going to pm you.

Amy, I have found a trainer and I'm booking it right now

I was hoping I could work through this, I have had many dogs over my lifetime, but the Bulldog is still a mystery to me.

Thanks for the advice.

Ashley,

please be sure that anyone you work with using positive training methods, dogs don't do well with punishment/correction training.

Temperament has a lot to do with

how a dog behaves at maturity. All the training/socialization in the world won't change it. Owners learn to manage the dog and training can teach the dog better coping skills and more appropriate ways to deal with fear/frustration. That said, a dog can have a wonderful temperament and the aggressive behavior may be the result of a single incident. It would be hard to know without a complete history. How you act/react to his behavior teaches him plenty, be sure to stay calm but assertive/persistent in removing him/redirecting his attention. Don't grab his collar, put a slip leash over his head and walk away.

Your situation is not unique, it will take some work to modify. For now, keep him away from the known stimuli, it pushes him over his threshold and at that point you can't teach him anything.

I strongly urge you to have one on one help with Baron. Aggression towards humans is serious.

You can go to apdt.com to find a trainer/consultant near you.

Hi Lynn thanks for your help.

I am definitely going to get one on one with him, I know I have some work ahead of me but it's worth it for him.

I believe alot of his issue stem from fear and also his sister, his behavior is worse with her.  When I have him on his own he seems alot more calm and relaxed.

I will keep you posted with what the trainers have to say.

thanks for offering your help, it is appreciated, I respect your opinion greatly, I can tell you have a very special talent with animals.
