I know this is more medical than general but more people look at this forum so I thought I would post here instead! I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to heal Gracie's chin. It looks like acne and is really red. I took her to the vet a couple of weeks ago and they put her on an antibiotic for 10 days and gave me medicated wash. She said to wash it well a couple of times a day and keep it as dry as possible. So everytime she drinks her water I am right there with a towel drying off her chin. She eats and drinks out of a stainless steel bowl that gets cleaned contstantly. Should I take her back to the vet because it's definitely not any better than it was 2 weeks ago or does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of this? Any input would be appreciated!!
How old is she?
They usually go thru the "teenage acne" phase. I think those with white faces tend to be a bit more sensitive, too. Plus, because the jaw juts out, it's not unusual for the hair to get jammed back into the follicle and cause that red irritation (according to my vet).
When Q had bad acne, I used the alcohol free stridex pads on his chin twice a day. That seemed to keep it under control (didn't make it go away, completely). He still has bumps, but not as badly as when he was an adolescent.
Also, wash/dry the chin after eating. :0)

i would go back to the vet.
I would ask about her food!. Also try some apple cider vinger in her water. I really don't know what to tell you other than the people here can help you with this. They are awesome. Rottingirl mommy been around a long time I would really listen to the old timer. But want to let you know I feel bad for her and hopes its get well soon. I would try acme cream and change to grain free food before I would give any more pills. In less someone else tell you diffrent.

Wipe face with
50/50 mix water and apple cider vinegar, after eating and drinking. I microwaved the water to kill anything in it, and let it cool first then added the ACV.
I use listerine on my boys paws for IDC and on their noses if they get red, maybe on acne also.
GOD only knows what in kibble, but it's mostly greasy, and yes grain free is better it's still dog food.
The vinegar is good to clean the dogs bowls in too, instead of bleach.
I've only been at this for a couple of years, so I'm a long way from an expert but this seemed to help with mine.
Seems Buddy had a little acne but it cleared up on it's own with just face washing with the ACV,

Mean people still suck
wow - thanks for all the advice!
she is 8 months old so it could be acne. She eats Nutro natural choice puppy chicken oatmeal. I tried switching her once to california natural lamb puppy and she had the worst reaction. she threw up for 2 days and you could hear her stomach rumbling from the other room. I feel like she has a super sensitive stomach. I gave her a raw carrot once because I read that it was good for them and she threw up again! Im afraid to switch her food because of how she will react to it. I will try the vinegar and also the stridex too. If that doesn't work then it's back to the vet for my little girl!!! Thanks again for all the great advice. I hope it works!
have you tried
some acne meds from the pharmacy...as long as its not a staff infection...and your doing the right thing with the stainless steel bowl...try some acne meds...they really work great...i have used them....any brand....
Our cure for chin problems was to change method of
drinking with a Lixit . Attached a picture of how we set it up. Put the bowl under it as they have a tendancy to drip a bit.
With this you do not have to wipe their chin after drinking. Along with keeping their face dryer you also have no mess on floor around the water bowl.
Works great for Harley.
