Yogurt?

So as i have posted before, ratliff has some serious allergy issues. Another issue he has is yeast infections. He gets them in his skin, and his ears. He currently has a yeast infection in one of his ears, and the vet packed it with meds and it didnt seem to phase it. I clean his ears twice daily with cotton swabs and a vinegar/alcohol/peroxide mix, and that isnt really doing much. Someone at a rescue suggested giving him some yogurt with his food once daily. i wanted to check with you guys first, seeing as we all have little tid bits. Has your bullie ever had an issue with yeast infection (especially in the ears) and what at home remedy to you use to either cure or lessen the occurance??

Oliver has yeast issues with only one of his ears...

and I put a huge dollop of plain greek yogurt on their kibble every morning. Well, except for one morning when I mistakenly put sour cream on it instead but the boys didn't seem to mind at all!!!!! It does seem to help by the way. He only has a flare up once or twice a year, but he suffers from seasonal allergies and if the pollen count is really high, then I can count on his ear getting "yucky".

Lucy has had ongoing issues

Lucy has had ongoing issues with allergies to everything!! For the yeast I too was also recommended to feed yogurt. I was told it had to be the probiotic lactose free yogurt because she would digest it a lot easier. Also the infections happened a lot less when I started feeding raw. She is currently eating llama. Good luck and I hope this helps! I definetly know how frustrating all the allergies are she just went for testing last week!

thanks!

thanks so much for all of your input!! what better way to learnt han through those with experience..right? lol. Do either of you know if there should be a specific typic of yogurt, or any yogurt? I have tried researching this anc cant hardly find any specifics. i dont feed ratliff raw just yet. i just switch him from blue buffalo to holistic select, and he is doing a little bit better with the itching, but his ear is still kinda bad. what methods do yall use for cleaning their ears? is there one way that works better than others?

I give my dogs yogurt.

I feed a tablespoon of fat free plain yogurt in each meal. They have not had any yeast issues, and the gas is down to a bare minimum!

yeah, fat free, plain yogurt...

either mix with their food or give a little as a dessert.  occassionally, and I know this is bad.. i give them a spoonful of my own yogurt with the fruit.. but i know i shouldnt because its too much sugar. greek or regular, i think is ok. most people give once a day with a meal, i think.

cleaning ears twice a day seems like it would be too often and possibly irritate the ears... i kinda feel like you have to give them time to heal up on their own.  I use those flat , circle, cotton pads, and doggie ear cleaner, hypoallergenic, sometimes the minty one, all of which are store/vet bought... i am kinda too scared to make my own solution. i figure the professionals would know better then me. I clean only as deep as my fingers can get.. my vet says that we shouldnt even be digging in there anyways. if i have any infection, i will finish off with a light layer of ottomax.. i do it like once every 2 weeks... maybe for the infected, daily check on it or every other day cleaning. until it starts looking ok.
