Worse before they get better?

Matilda's ear is not healing. She scratches only very occasionally when awake or when I'm around, but I noticed that she had actually scratched the inside of her ear raw, possibly sometime during the night.

One thing I noticed that is very new behavior is getting out of bed. Most of the time, she will not get up until I ask her to. She usually stays in bed until it is time to go downstairs. Now she is getting up a full hour early - at 5am - and she will sit by the side of my bed and whine very softly. She does not have to pee or anything more than usual. She just seems to want to be comforted because if I pet her for a bit she'll go back to bed.

She is to receive 8-10 drops daily of Mometamax (Gentamicin-mometasone-clotrimazole liquid) but it just isn't working.

Another vet visit tomorrow night...this will make once a week for the last three weeks :)

Can't wait to see those raw benefits soon enough! Can't stand to see her uncomfortable in any way.

Her "total raw" cold turkey begin date is something like 2 or 3 weeks ago only. I would go back and look but I can't right now. The actual date is the day after Judy wrote to us "dump the kibble"...lol...

Are you giving her Benadryl?

I'm guessing that she is really bothered by the ears and its keeping her up at night.  Perhaps Benadryl will help for now until it heals - or maybe she is getting that already.  Poor baby.

she takes zyrtec

as an antihistamine. once a day. i'm going to ask if maybe that's not the best, although human trials suggest that zyrtec is a better antihistamine for inflammmation (without the sedation).

Mometamax - gentomycin

Found this interesting in some research I was doing.

Dr. Louis N. Gotthelf

there are a small number of dogs that can go deaf with Gentamycin, the antibiotic in Mometamax.

Did the vet perscribe Zyrtec?

Did the vet culture the ear?

Yeah I read that too.Yes, the

Yeah I read that too.

Yes, the vet prescribed Zyrtec. And the vet cultured the ear; almost all yeast w/ tiny bit of staph.

I'm sorry Matilda is having issues with

her ear.

As far as the raw goes, she will probably have more energy. I know that Kofi does. I am beginning to feel much more comfortable with the raw and Kofi's coat is thicker and she sheds very little.

She didn't really have any serious issues to begin with except those the vet called seasonal allergies. They are gone. Her eyes are much clearer and no longer weep.

I hope you begin to see some good benefits with Matilda very soon.

i use ottomax when kibby's ears get raw

when i clean ears, i don't drop the liquid into her ear because i heard they develop even more ear infections from the leftover liquid that doesnt get shaken out.... so i take cotton squares (like flat cotton balls) , squeeze ear cleaner on them, stick it in her ear a little, then rub from the outside of her ear, like massage. then i take cotton square (w/cleaner) after cotton square and use my finger to clean out every nook and cranny in her ears, then use a little ottomax after i am done.

when kibby scartches her ears, she will make them bleed if i dont stop her, so i have to make sure that if i see her scratch, i will have to clean, or i have to stop her, or i have to make sure her back feet /nails are clean, or sometimes i need to just scratch or rub the outside for her so she gets rid of the urge! alot of the times, after i clean and medicate, i try to leave alone for at least a couple of days, because i don't want it to be all the cleaner and medication causing the irritation...

she wakes up every morning at 6:02am exactly, i think she has a watch... her usual morning routine is to scratch everything in the mornings!
