So Winston is 6 and he has had entropian surgery which has worked great. So last week I took him for a walk in the woods and long story short later that night his face swelled up something horrible. I gave him two benadryl and the swelling went down over night. His right eeye was swollen shut during the worst of it and when I came home he was scratching at it. Now I took him to my local vet today but not the vet I normally go to. This vet said he had a case of conjunctiveitus. I was given a antibiotic drop to put in his eye. I was also told I wiould have to take him to an opthamologist. I then contacted my awesome breeder and she told me at first if the drops had sterioids in it not to give it to him cause it could worsen the issue. The drops do not have steroids in them so that is not an issue. Also the two Opthamologists that were reccomended to me , one of them my breeder said was horrible. I go with everything she says, I alsmot feel she knows more than some Vets. She is the best Breeder someone could ask for. So I am going to bring him to his normal vet in a few days after I see how the drops work. I was told by the vet I went to today that he has this film on his eye due to irritation and there a a few blood cells that are coming to that area.
1. Have any of you had this problem before with your bully, she made it seem like he can go blind.
2. What are your opinions on the matter....
Thank you, Brian and his loyal companion Winston.
Green Stain
Did they stain his eye for an ulcer? It is very likely he poked his eye while in the woods. The greyish color you are seeing is normal in an eye injury. Can they go blind? Why yes they can if it is not treated immediately and correctly. They can also lose the eye. So eye trouble is definitely not something to mess around with.
My vet usually prescripes the Neo Poly Bac Ointment for an ulcer. NO steroids if there is an ulcer. Be diligent about applying the ointment or drops every couple of hours.
The blood veins you see are actually good, they take the blood to the injured area to heal it. If it is a deep ulcer then you can likely see the divit in the eye. These take time to heal, weeks actually, depending on the severity of the injury.
oh boy, yes i may have some experience with the film
IN OUR CASE (maybe not in yours) James had an indolent ulcer. Meaning it wouldnt heal. The whole film look is really scary, but I was told it is part of the healing process. We tried sooo many things, and the NeoPolyBac Deb suggested is what worked. But not until after we had bottom lid entropian surgery-- part of teh reason the ulcer would not heal was because the bottom lids were rolling in. All said, it was 6+ weeks to heal.
Does he appear to be in pain or just not himself? James was really bothered by his eye

Well
Actually they did do the tear thing you are talking about. There is no Ulcer and they put him on antibiotic drops that contain no steroids I made sure of that. he had antropian surgery cause his lashes were rubbing on his eye.. I am very well versed in what not to and what to give the dog and when I am not I call his breeder who is awesome. I just have not had this issue before.
he does not seem to
He does not seem to be bothered by it but he also had entropian surgery and he is just a very fat happy stinky boy. I just do not want him to go blind or something, I always think the worse.
how long ago was his surgery, and was it both lids?
upper and lower? also, i wonder if he picked someting up in the woods and it got in his eyes, (poisn ivy)
