Which Antihistamine works best?

Taking a poll here. Benadryl? Zyrtec? Celemastine/Tavist? or Chlorpheniramine? My poor boy is going nuts licking, scratching and rubbing face in carpet lately. Want to avoid steroids or atopica. He is 11 and his allergies have gotten worse. He is on a grainfree homemade diet, vitamins, pre and probiotics, and herbs. Thanks for the input. Would an air purifier help or humidifier?

Hello

If he has airborn allergies the air filter will help.  I have one that I use for myself and my Onslow, its' a hepa and it really helps :)

This year is the first year we are trying zyrtec for him, he typically is already suffering this time of year and he's been on it about a month.  So far so good!  I hope you find some relief for your baby.  I do believe Onslow is allergic to grass so in addition to the above, we wipe his feet when he comes in, and try to wash the pollen off of him if he is out for extended amounts of time.  Best wishes.

I would stop all vitamins and supplements first

Your boy could be allergic to something in these supplements. Then, I would try an elimination diet. Try one protein at a time for several days or so and see if you see any differences.

I have given Zyrtec and loratadine for allergies. Also you might want to consider allergy testing.

Allergy Testing

Had allergy testing done last year.  Mostly environmental but also allergic to Flax, barley, venison and soy. I give him Milk Thistle, astragulus, and ester c. It just seems it has gotten worse starting the beginning of this year.

Unfortunately, allergy testing isn't 100%

Eventhough Morgan's tests didn't show any food allergies, I know she is allegic to some proteins. For instance, she will lick her feet until they bleed if I give her chicken. She does much better with fish or lamb based foods.

For us it's been trial and error.

We just got some TemerilP from our vet...

Newman is itching a lot, allergies are really bad in Phoenix this spring.  It's prescription only, but it really works, has a tiny amount of prednisone in it.
