Wondering what others are doing about vaccinating puppies/adults in light of the new protocols.
I've been giving series of 3 DHP to puppies starting at 8 weeks--booster at 16 mos. and never again.
I give rabies after 6 months, booster a year later, then every 3 years as required by law in NY.
I also give the dogs that are showing/training Bortedella.
I do about the same Micki.
3 puppy shots and then rabies.
Booster shot & rabies next time rabies is due about a year leter.
Booster & rabies every 3 years.
similar
My dogs get a similar protocol, but I also give Lepto since we live in the country (cows, swine, coyotes, raccoons, possum, flooded fields & standing water, etc.)
After age 6 I only give Bordetella, nothing else, not even Rabies (screw the law - they are MY dogs!). I use the intranasal vaccine not the injectable and give it myself.
that intranasal
vaccine made Audrey sick. Now I am scared to give it to her ever again. She got an upper respiratory infection from it.
The rabies law makes me mad! They should allow titers as an alternative.

.....thanks for replies...
I sold a 4-1/2 mo. old puppy last week. She had series of 3 DHP at 8, 12, 16 weeks. I gave vaccination information to buyers and told them she was done with puppy shots until booster at 16 mos. and that she just needed rabies after 6 months. I suggested they might get a Bordatella for her since they will be taking her to obedience class. They took her for exam Monday and gave the information to the vet who proceeded to give her DHPL, Corona and rabies vaccines with instructions to return again in 2 weeks to repeat the vaccines. I can't change what was done, but told them not to return for the additional vaccines in two weeks. They said the vet was listed on this vet listing.
Wow!
That is just too bad! On the vets part and the owner's part. I hope the owner does NOT go back in 2 weeks!

Same here
What are the new protocalls?
Rabies
I have 1 that doesn't get rabies shot. She had a horrible reaction when she got it the first time and I'm to dang scared to give it to her again. My vets are fine with that.
