Hi, All, some will recognize me, some won't. Have not been here in ages. I'll try to give the short version of our story. We adopted our very sweet, active girl Ella in November (she was left at a shelter). She's about 2, not yet spayed due to other pressing medical conditions and then she went into heat. Hoping to spay this month but now we have this issue. What we thought was a tough to treat UTI turned out to be vaginitis and the culture showed e.coli AND a resistant staph. She is on Simplicef for the e.coli and the staph needed Chloramphenacol...most likely side effect: vomiting. And that started this morning unfortunately. Just once but she does not want to eat. Vet said to try to give Pepcid and stop the meds for 24 hours. Tomorrow we are to start at lower dose for a few days and see she does. Just wondering if anyone has battled these organisms in this part of the body before.
Thank you,
Michele & Ella (And our ANgels Winnie and Hooch)
Hi Michele:-)
I don't know anything about the issues you are having, but one question...is she on vitamin c or anything to help boost ehr immune system to fight this stuff off? I know you, and you know a LOT more about health issues than I do because of our precious Hooch baby (and I was SO sorry to hear of his passing). Just wondered if a dose of something like Cranberry pills with a vitamin c in them would help with some things. I give one daily to my 4some and they have done extrememly well with fighting off UTI's, etc.
Other than that, I hope you find the help you need. Good to see you, I miss you Michele. I could totally use help with my sign language skills, which are non-existant. My grand daughter is almost 4 and knows a thousnad times more than I do:-) Getting har dto communicate with her other than verbally, and while she understands what I am saying, I still am not understanding all she is saying without knowing signs to back up her words. (Ok, now that I am wondering, you ARE the one who knows sign, aren't you?!!)
Anywho, good to see you, and I hope you get some answers.

Hi, Amy!
I don't know sign but my best friend is an ASL interpreter! Maybe i mentioned that on the board?
Winnie took Vitamin C pills for her UTIs because her PH was off. Vet said DO NOT give Ella Vit C as her PH is fine. She does get a mutli-vitamin immune support powder though.
Oreo used to get uti's that were ecoli...
I don't know about the vaginitis. She had one uti after another and finally our vet put her on a med that would cleanse her urine so it wouldn't harbor bacteria, it was called methanamine hippurate and was very inexpensive. After that she had no problems.
Thanks, Kathy
We were shocked when her sterile urine test showed NO bacteria...that's when vet cultured her vagina. Poor girl.
sorry no experience...but i
sorry no experience...but i hope she gets better soon!
