UTI in Male Puppy
Submitted by Martine13 on May 3, 2011 - 5:46pmI have a 9 month old male, Hugo and he has just been diagnosed with his 2nd UTI in 2 months. Going back to the vet today to X-ray for stones ect.. but, wanted to see if anyone else had these issues.....

Q kept getting UTI's with struvite crystal formation. We never figured out which came first - the UTI or crystals (one can lead to the other and vice versa). The vet thought that it was triggered by prostatitis. Once I had him neutered, it stopped.
I think (if I remember correctly), he had 3 UTI's in a few months.

at 8 months he was peeing on his bedding. I took him in and he had an abundance of calcium oxalate urinary crystals. They are jagged and irritate the bladder lining, causing bacteria to stick. A change in food cleared up the crystals although he had a couple more infections after that.
Funny that we are having this discussion. He peed on the bathmat 2 days ago, totally out of character for him. It has been years since he has had an infection. My vet wants to see him if it happens again. He is eating and drinking normal amounts and not peeing frequently. Now I am constantly feeling his bedding and the carpet for wetness. I`ll take him right in if it happens again.
