UGH! Itchy paws...i thought it was over...

With a recent switch to raw food, things were looking SO good. Stools are firmer, he is more active, no more rash on his belly, no more interdigital cyst...but then...today I woke up to the sound of my puppy gnawing and licking and chewing his paw! When I checked it out, its red, irritated pretty much "angry" looking. I cleansed it with bactine, rubbed some anti itch cooling gel and gave him a benedryl. He's sleeping now. WHAT COULD IT BEEEEEEEEE! I just want him to have a happy un-itchy, un-irritated life.....help.

it sounds like a contact allergy...some thing his feet are sensitive to....or did you add some thing new to his diet.....did anyone sneek him a treat?????
time to be a detective...you have to watch where he has been and wo fed what to him....takes a bit of time but you will figure it out....

You are not alone! My poor guy had the same thing that you describedl. The vet said it was only a tiny cyst and that it was more allergy related. It cleared right up with some medicated shampoo. Have you tried that?. I hope your poor baby finds some relief.
Can you tell me what kind of benadryl you gave? The vet says if Tuffy is biting/licking at his paw like you described i should give him 25 mg of benadryl.

I give joey b 25mg of benedryl. It seems to work wonders:) I also use this awesome anti itch gel that I get at walmart and he seems to love that rubbed all over his body. It's the only part of the grooming ritual that he seems to enjoy actually. Hope this helps!
