Hi Gang ,
What would you think if you had a dog that is very red ,itchy legs , belly and chin ? The dogs coat is beautiful except for hives now and then The ears are VERY clean that they dont even need cleaning and NO tear stains . It was scraped for demo and there wasnt any mites this time but was months ago and was on ivermectin for 2 months . This one has me stumped .
An opinions are welcome
Pauline
I would guess
contact allergy (legs belly feet). Perhaps grass. Benadryl might help does the dogs nose run from time to time?
Benadryl doesnt even give one
Benadryl doesnt even give one little inch of relief for him
That's no good
hopefully if you switch detergent that will fix it. I clean with all natural things since we got Onslow. Baking Soda, Vinegar.
If it keeps up and benadryl doesn't work they will put him on steroids. No good. Do whatever you can to avoid that.
I agree hot water with White vinegar.
Never had a problem with contact allergies again and his white beds came out very clean.

your describing
contact allergies....some thing your using to clean with??? laundry ???
We use Tide for laundry and
We use Tide for laundry and clean with lavendor pine sol .
Ack Tide! We had a big problem with that - too strong.
Onslow broke right out when he was a pup from it. I switched to Arm and Hammer and all is well now. Maybe try that.
wow get rid of that
major problems their...go to arm and hammer not scented....and a reg bleach to clean...try for two weeks and see how it goes.....i once used one just one dryer fabric sheet in a laod of laundry....wilson ended up in the er....
Yep. No Tide here. Arm and Hammer and....
Bleach for cleaning. That is all I use. I use off brand dryer sheets but haven't noticed any problems with them. The Tide about wiped Sophia out though.

I agree...it's a contact allergy. I use Dreft for the dogs beds
and blankets and vinegar in the rise instead of fabric softener. And when I clean, he's locked up and I only use a steamer on the floor.
you know i had an unusual experience once
with contact allergy. When rex was a puppy he had a pink cat throw that he laid on. It felt like it was made of cotton, but there was no label on it. after trial and error i realized he was allergic to the throw. It was very odd. even though it appeared to be a cotton, he reacted to it. I took it away and gave it back to him and he got itchy again. I also do not use regular detergent on any of his blankets, toys or beds. i use unscented detergent and a very small amount of it. The more natural (vinegar) the better. good luck!

Tide is too strong I believe IMO had same issue
Switched to just hot water and vinegar... Or the arm and hammer non scent hypo-allergenic etc detergent. Worked like a charm..
Anything with lavender seemed to make my one girl break out in hives too, what a mess. Only use the petco oatmeal shampoo now, and either vinegar or the arm and hammer stuff to wash.
popcorn ball
He doesnt get a blanket to sleep with because he eats them . He is either on the floor or in his crate with just the pan . He now has hives all over and looks like a popcorn ball ( for the third time). Baths dont give him any relief either . I am going to have to resort to some steriods to give this poor boy some relief . Never had a dog with allergies before and I dont like it !!
Usually hives are from something he's inhaled or
something he has come in contact with. Did you clean with the Pine Sol today, do you have air fresheners going in your house or fragrant candles?? New carpeting etc?? Poor kid. Hope he starts feeling better!! Benedryl can be given at 1mg per pound and up to 3 times a day, if that is not working than a trip to the Vet may be in order.
I've dealt with bulldog allergies for 8 years
This sounds like he needs immediate attention. He could get to the point where it adversely effects his breathing. I would suggest getting him to a vet as soon as you can. I think it is a good idea to see the vet for immediate short term relief. Our vet gave strong steriod injection when rex was really reallly bad and then followed with pills. It takes a lot of trial and error to find out what the triggers are and you have to do a lot of detective work. we had rex tested twice, once at 6 months and once at 3 years. We did a blood test. some say it is not reliable, i cannot really say. based on the test results we limited his diet. we've been successful for years and have just recently (the last 2 months) we had issues again. He has been on prednisone for most of his life.. 5mg daily...some vets yell at me about it, others seem not too concerned about the long term effects because is is a small amount. We decided long ago that we rather have rex have a happy comfortable short life than a miserable itchy long life, so we have kept him on the prednisone. Every dog is different and unfortunately it takes a lot of time, energy and patience to control the allergies. I have learned to limit diet and treats so that i can best find out what he reacts to. according to the blood test he is allergic to trees, dust, grass, bug bites and lots of food. i do my best to wipe the outside off of his paws when we come in the house, filter the air, baths with oatmeal shampoo. he is also allergic to cigarette smoke, which doesnt pertain to use, but we had a friend smoking outside of our house and rex went crazy!!!! This forum is a great place to find out about good foods to feed allergic bullies, whether raw or kibble. Best of luck I hope he feels better fast. Please keep his progress posted and feel free to ask any more questions, the people on this site ROCK :-)
