Hi, Rex is on ivermectin for demodex mange, he started a few days ago and I've been searching the web and this forum. On the web I found a few sites where people were using a diluted mixture of hydrogen peroxide and borax as a rinse to get rid of the mange on their dogs. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it? Thanks :-)

Sounds very harsh
Personally I would never use such. I'm assuming they are washing their dogs with this.
IMO just stick with the Ivermection. It will work! May take some time depending on how quickley you caught the Demodex. You should also boost the immune system with some supplements.
just read your post..and i hope your not doing that
where you read that...its all bs......demodex is a stress related mange...get your dog on some vit c and fish oil tabs....a good diet less vaccines....will cure any mange....
Update
Yes, Rex is on Vit c and fish oil tabs. since he is 9 we have decreased both his vaccines and flea/tick treatment to have less stress on him, but honestly he lives like a PRINCE. He is basically inside all day, or on the enclosed porch sunning himself. He does get some exercise, but he doesnt really enjoy walks, prefers drives in the car. He is with me all day, as I am home all day. Anyway, there was too much diversity in the H.P. borax thing, so i did not try it. I did ask my vet about it and she said I could bathe him in that, it is very drying to the skin , so follow up with lotion, but I opted to instead to bathe him a shampoo i had used on him a few years back that i knew he responded OK to. I have been using Phytovet CK shampoo for the last month, but switched last night to the older shampoo which is medicated and has coal tar, salicytic acid and sulfur in it. When i started to shampoo him with this, it was almost as if he sighed in relief. after the bath he was so happy and playful and today his skin is a lot less inflammed. Also the vet called today and said he has a bacterial infection - enterococcus - so know i have to reseach this. She was never sure last week that he had mange and could not see any from the scrapping but said sometimes you dont see it and they still have and thus the treatment with ivermectin. So now, he is off the pred, on home cooked diet with vitamin and mineral suppls, on baytril for the enteroccus but still on ivermectin. not happy about that right now. follow up next week again with vet. BUT from what i am seeing on the WEB, I can not find the best treatment for enterococcus. Rex is feeling much better today, so that is a good thing. Sigh. this came on so fast and my beautiful handsome boy looks so bad on his arm, it breaks my heart.

Why Ivermectin
if she did not see any mites? Seriously they are easy to see in the microscope. I would hesitate to use Ivermectin (which is a strong horse dewormer) just because she thinks he might have Demodex. Like Judy mentioned they can get over Demodex on their own and it is also not seen in older dogs that are taken care of.
Ivermectin because..
She (the vet) said that sometimes the mites or their eggs arent easy to see under a microscope and just in case he does have them. That is her advice. I have never had to deal with demodex and have been trying to educate myself on the subject. Some people say they are hard to see, others disagree. Seriously, if Rex is stressed, I dont know how to de-stress him, other than by continuing this home cooked diet. It has been two weeks since i changed it. He is literally next to me all day, I anticpate his every need, he has plenty of toys and play time and love. We have had him since he was 10 weeks old. He has never had a hard day in his life! He owns every piece of furniture we have including our tempurpedic mattress :-) So otherthan the diet stressing him, I cannot think of how else to de-stress him. I am hesitant to continue the ivermectin and hesitant to take him off of it. He started it one week ago and she said it would take 2 weeks to see any improvement if it is demodex. I am thinking if he continues to improve over the next few days, i will take him off of the ivermectin. believe me, I dont want to give it to him for no reason. I will try to take a picture of what his arm looks like. thanks again. :-)

Ivermectin is a pretty tough remedy for something
that hasn't even been verified.
You might want to discuss that with your vet.
Good luck
