My 5 month old puppy seems to be having trouble w/his trach. Since we got him it has been one thing after another. We are being told we may be referred to a specialist. His trach is not growing, right now he is on steriods, it is inflammed. He first had pneumonia, now it's not growing, he has hard time breathing, I feel so terrible for him, I don't know what else to do for him. Does anyone else have have this trouble? We have an older (8 year old, and we had no trouble with him). I love my puppy and hate to see him going through this. It is also costing us a lot of money, but mostly I hate to see him going through this - seems awful that he can't breathe and coughing and medicine and vet visits weekly.

adding: short trach
I want to add that the problem is a short/thin trach my bully has. He is growing, but his trach is not. I am really worried about him, can anyone give me advice if anyone else has had this problem. I feel he is having such a hard time breathing.

I wish I knew
anything about it. I hope someone else can help you. I'm sorry. Best wishes for your baby.
Trach Problems
unfortunately are one of those things that can't be corrected surgically. Have they xrayed the trach to give you this diagnosis? Does he have just a narrowing of the trach in one area or is the whole trach narrow? How is his palette? It is likely he would benefit from a humidifier. Fortunately I have no experience with this...but there is a friend of mine from Texas and her girl Jez had a very narrow trach. Maybe I can get her to check in and respond.
I's so sorry for the puppy and you. What does your breeder say? I hope they are helping.
thanks for responding, yes,
thanks for responding, yes, they have taken x-rays. He is growing but his trach isn't. Right now his seems to be inflammed (hopefully due to allergies) his breeder is always in touch and if I have issues or concerns they are always there (seems the dad/owen had the same issues and seems to have out grown most). I am hoping same happens to Diego.

It the dad had trach
problems he shouldn't be used at stud even if he outgrew it. Did you know this when you purchased the puppy? Bad trachs are a huge problem for the dog and inhibit the dogs quality of life.
Yeah, I feel bad he has that
Yeah, I feel bad he has that if does seem to be a bad quality of life for him right now, it kills me to hear him breath like that. No, I had no idea about that prior to purchase. Of course, I love him and will do anything to make him comfortable now. I sort of thought they should not be breeding (in fact they have a new litter coming up in May). I certainly am not going to stud my lil Diego out!

IMO the breeder
should be paying for all your medical expenses that relate to his trach problems.
ha! hasn't even offered to
ha! hasn't even offered to pay anything - we were hoping, but decided since they didn't offer - we won't bother. Our baby has cost us doubled at this point. But we thought the same thing. We call him our golden child. It's sad to see him go through this, but too late to turn back now.
