DiMaggio has had really runny diarrhea for the last few days now, we gave him rice and pumpkin the other day and it thickened up a bit so I thought he was getting better. Today back to runny dark green and black diarrhea and theres traces of blood in it. I fed him his dinner with a tablespoon of pumpkin....should I be concerned or going to the vet? I think this may be caused by the plant bulbs he ate in the garden earlier this week when someone let him out in the yard unsupervised....not me, but I don't need to drop any names.
Any input will be greatly appreciated!
I'm assuming the bulbs he ate aren't poisonous?
You could put him on a totally bland diet, boiled hamburger and rice with a little pumpkin. You could also give him Immodium, that might help to firm him up. Blood after having diarrhea for a few days isn't unusual, the colon is irritated. If it's not gone soon though, I'd take him to the vet. Also, make sure he's hydrated with lots of water and/or pedialyte.
i think since its been a few days...
its better to go to the vet.. usually food goes in and out of dogs within 48 hrs? or so.. maybe something is not digesting right or stuck? i would be worried about the blood and the black coloring? good luck :)
sincerely, christine
Go to the vet
When Izzy had blood in her pooh they asked me the color of her stool. It was a normal color but runny and blood on her butt. He told me that black diarrhea can mean blood and if it changed to that to come in right away.
I would go to the vet today.

So far this morning his poop
So far this morning his poop has returned to it's normal color but it's still really soft. No signs of blood either.
That's wonderful
I am so glad no blood. Anytime I see blood I do panic so can understand how you felt. I am just thankful your baby is doing better.
Keep us informed on how things are going.

THANKS to everyone, I will
THANKS to everyone, I will keep posting updates...
I just hope it passes soon, thankfully he's still acting his normal self eating and drinking and playing like nothings wrong. I've was told by another more experienced bulldog owner in the neighbourhood that I shouldn't worry until he stops eating and drinking and acts lethargic.
Happy to say this mornings
Happy to say this mornings poop was more firm than it's been in a few days, still not great, but I think it's improving. Still going to add a tablespoon of pumpkin to one of his feedings a day until all is normal.
Thanks!
