Hello, I am very interested in this Lyme Disease vaccine I've heard a little bit about. Have your bullies
gotten it? I check them for ticks, of course, but I'm afraid maybe I'll miss one sometime and they could get very sick. We have
lots of brush, trees, and woods in our yard, as a matter of fact, I had to tug and pull to get one off of my husband's shoulder last
week. Those stupid ticks are TENACIOUS!!!!! I seriously had to do SO much pulling, my poor hubby had some pink inflammation
afterwards. And ---OMG, the last time I had to pull one off of Meaty, it also took FOREVER, and I KNOW it hurt him! Poor baby!
One thing I don't understand is...any time I've found a tick on Meaty, it's NEVER engorged (thank goodness!) and they always
seem dead or near dead.......So does that mean it can't still hurt him even though it's stuck to his fur? And I figure since the tick's not engorged, that means he didn't bite Meaty??? I'm confused..... I've read SO much about ticks, yet they never get that specific....so I
appreciate any answers----thanks! :-)

We use Frontline Plus
And per our vet we did not get the vaccine. The tick has to attach for a period of time for the virus to transmit and the frontline (if working properly) will not let the tick attach. We have found ticks on Ozzy but they were not attached--in fact one came off him and attached to my husband.
The vet told us that the lyme vaccine is not 100% and can cause nasty side effects. I did a lot of reading on all the vaccines before Ozzy came home and we opted to get just the basic ones (the DLpp??? and rabies) we did not get the lepto or the lyme vaccine

I don't have all the answers but
I do know that once they bite or attach that's all it takes to get tick born disease - they don't have to be full of blood. I thought I would share this little tool with you which helps remove ticks with ease should they bite someone or somebully.

I did do the vaccine because we are in Lyme tick central (RI) but even so, Onslow has still contracted another tick disease. ehrlichiosis.
Don't you wish there was a way to put them in a bubble?
oh noo! I hope Onslow is okay....I need to
google the disease you mentioned.....hope it isn't horrible for sweet Onslow! And thank you for the info and that website.....Also, it's interesting you mentioned you got him the vaccine since you're in RI, because that totally goes along with what my vet said "unless you're up North, they really don't need to Lyme Disease vaccine"......makes me glad because it shows my vet really does keep up with the latest info :-)

Beatrix just got her lyme
Beatrix just got her lyme disease vaccine for the year, actually. The ticks are AWFUL this year, at least up in our area -- we found three on her in late April/early May, well before we thought they would be out! We use the oil slick flea and tick treatment as a preventative, too, but especially having already found three of them with their ugly little heads buried in her flesh, I wasn't taking any chances with lyme.
Lymes Vaccine.....
They can still get Lymes Disease when vaccinated, so don't relax and continue to monitor them.
I haven't bothered with the vaccine since I found this out.
That's a shame! Well, they aren't getting it anyway, beacuse
our vet said it's more important for those who live "up North"......and wouldn't even be relevant where we live. I appreciate the extra
info you added, too.....thank you!
