Looks like it might be an interdigital cyst

These are not that uncommon.  My girl doesn't have them but I know some people prescribe a dip in epsome salts.  And I think I saw something abour Prep H too.

Someone else will be able to help for sure but I know there are lots of home remedies for this.

interdigital cyst, most likely.....unfortunately, meaty has them

chronically.  i've read tons of great tips here, and things we do are;

soak the paw in warm water and epsom salts for 10 minutes.  but if your baby is like our meaty, 10 minutes is most

likely wayy too long...we are lucky to have him soak for 5 minutes....but it's better than nothing...lol..

;;;

;;;

oh, and my apologies for no caps....my laptop keyboard is not letting me use the shift button...

....

..

another great tip i learned her is hemorrhoid cream takes away the edema and pain.....but again, if your baby is like meaty, he will just wanna lick

it all off.  if you have one of those neck cones, or if your baby will leave a sock on, that would be great to let the

cream absorb.  meaty will NOT leave a sock on for more than a few seconds, so next time he gets a bad one,

i will have to put a cone on him.  you may notice your baby is going to start licking it furociously, which of course,

only makes it worse.

i'm not a vet, but the last time meaty had one of these, it got very, very swollen and looked scary.  i was afraid the vet

was going to have to incise and drain it, but he didn't.  i asked the vet if we could put triple antibiotic ointment on

it, then bandage it to keep him from licking, but he said no, they need air to heal....

....

...

andddd, in case you're wondering, the reason they say meaty gets them so often is allergies, but we haven't pinpointed

what the allergen is...yet.  we've gone through soooo many different types of foods, eliminated many treats, etc, but we're

still not sure what allergen is causing these things. we're going to take him to a veterinary dermatologist to find out in the near future.

Don't use both Epson and Prep H together use one or the other

Epson salts draw it out and Prep H does the opposite and shrinks it.  Using both won't help.

another thing our very bully-knowledegable vet suggested

is that we use human anti-athlete's foot spray between each of meaty's "toes', since his cysts are also most likely

fungus.  and again, that's why they don't want us wrapping it, since fungus and yeast need air to heal.  i hope your

baby doesn't get them as badly as meaty does.  ...

...

...

not saying your baby's will get this bad, or cause him to lick/ itch.  this last one meaty had, as i said, was so red and

angry, we were worried. i even asked the vet for pain meds since we figured it had to hurt, and bullies are known

to cover up their pain ;-(    vet assured us he wasn't in pain enough to warrant pain meds.  he did put him on a 10-day

course of oral antibiotics and it was fine...

....

.....

now, to make this story even longer----lol------it happened AGAIN this week, and this time, it was even worse than the one

in the picture below ...(which was only a couple weeks ago...ugh!)  instead of rushing to the vet and putting him

on more antibiotics, we soaked it in the epsoms salts and then applied triple-antibiotic cream twice a day. within

one day, his paw was fine.  sorry if i've given wayyyy more info than you want...lol...but thought it would be helpful

if you knew all the things we've tried.  all i know is, i hated to put him on more antibiotics when he was recently on them.

good luck

looks like a cyst

more than likely an ingrown hair.....you can hot pack it to see if it comes to a head.....if it  gets really large i would have the vet look...to see if an antibotic or needs to be lanced....

onslowsmom's picture

on the side of caution have the vet look at it.

Its hard to tell if its an IDC or something else.  but its best to be safe and have a professional tell you.

Our vet suggests a solution of Dreft Laundry detergent with H2O

Dreft is used for baby clothes and it seems to work on the interdigital cycts. You don't need a lot of the Dreft and the water should be warm but not hot.

interdigital cysts

We used to get these ALL the time.  I kept going to the vet and they kept wanting to prescribe antibiotics and/or steroids.  What worked for us was switching from kibble to raw food.  we haven't had another one since.  I wrote a bunch of stuff on interdigital cysts and other issues we had at www.bulldogintheraw.com.  Please feel free to check it out.  It is under "health issues" There are pictures too :)

Good luck hope ur puppy is feeling better soon!
