Just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting rid of tear stains that actually work. I'm considering going to a grain free food and filtered water to start.

I was always diligent about cleaning the wrinkles and folds of my 9 month old EB, always fed top notch kibble, but started to notice some staining that quickly got worse and in about a weeks time the staining was a dark red, and it was difficult to keep the area dry. I ramped up the cleaning to at least twice a day, and was dabbing at him all day long just to make sure the wrinkles were not moist, but it got worse and then I saw that some of the hair was starting to fall out. I wasn't really getting any satisfactory advice from his vet so I started poking around on the internet, and found some stuff that sounded reasonable and made sense to me, and it worked. I changed his food to a whitefish and sweet potato kibble by Wellness, and started giving him a little white vinegar in his drinking water to slightly change the ph of his tears, just a half teaspoon...that is what causes the staining, the tears. There are also vitamins that they can take, but in less than 2 weeks and half a bag of kibble, the staining is completely gone and the wrinkles are dry, the hair is growing back and no more excessive tearing either. Bottled water was recommended, but I fill a gallon water jug everyday and let it rest 24 hours and add the vinegar.

I keep the gallon bottle filled all the time with fresh water, and I pour it into a liter size bottle and add about a half to a teaspoon of vinegar just before I fill the water bowl. I believe a liter is a quart and a half. Of course, with the non-stop drinking I have to fill the water bowl several times a day, but I am soo happy that it worked for him and the tear stains are gone entirely.
My Budda has a mostly white face and used to have tear stains. I switched to Wellness food, with only a few ingredients, and I also avoid feeding him any foods with red beet pulp in them (it is in many dry dog foods).
You already know what to do then. =)
Good place to start.
I dont know what to tell you
