Ours went away when we started raw. We grind our own so maybe its one of the ingredients. Also it could be the bodys way of purging all the bad stuff out.

Audrey's nose rope went through a NASTY gunky black NASTY phase when we switched her, it took what seemed like forever to clear up. It was a few months.

Matilda had some weird stuff happen for at least a couple of weeks. She had more eye discharge (hers was gray, though) and an ear infection came and went. I was told that it can take a bit for their bodies to adjust but once they do things will be a lot easier on them. I was very vigilant with her for a couple of weeks, in fact, because there were dog people that honestly thought that I was nuts for trying to feed her raw and they thought I was basically trying to kill her. Nice.
There are things that will not be helped by raw food - that is, any allergies to a specific food. Matilda's case she seems to have a sensitivity to chicken in general, so she may actually have a protein-specific allergy to it (it was the basis of the kibble she ate for years) and feeding it to her raw isn't going to help.
So she gets nearly everything else I can think of - venison, lamb, beef, rabbit, and bison - all without incident. With Matilda, the darker 'redder' meats - beef, bison, venison - she tolerates very well. The others seem to be a little less well-tolerated (poultry) and the lighter mammals (rabbit).
Someone suggested also feeding her small bony fish (herring, anchovy) which I do also from time to time. This is handy because they go right into her bowl, whole, and she gets great Omegas from them (and loves them!).

Yeah, maybe it could be detoxing... I'd given a little thought to that idea too. My Lab has lost a lot of weight and I'm feeding the amount the box tells me to... I felt bad for her so now i'm giving her more. I liked my chubby lab,lol.. now she's tall and lenky and looks like a stray...
Oh and I've been adding in some chicken I had frozen in the freezer now and then. I know I'll never eat it so I've been giving each a chicken breast and a half... unfortunantly it's boneless.
Tomorrow I'm going to start the lamb... I'm going to use 1/2 a box at a time before switching it up to give them a variety... Hopefully that won't be too hard on their systems.
Weird
