My three-year old female has all of a sudden developed very dark tear stains. It seems like they appeared within 3 weeks. I have tried using Desitine as a preventative measure to help keep the moisture out but that didn't work. I bought some tear stain remover from my pet groomer - that didn't work. I used hydrogen peroxide (very carefully I might say) to try to fade out the tears stains - that didn't work. My girl has a beautiful white face and the tears stains stand out. Can someone please give me suggestions as to what I might do? I saw what the website recommends but I need something more powerful. Thank you for your help!
If you can pinpoint what caused them...
you can probably eliminate them. What are you feeding? We switched our white boy to a grain free food and used filtered water, and his ugly stains went completely away.
my girl has them too
the ONLY thing that worked for her was an antibiotic, Angel's Eyes. I was not willing to keep her on it long term and when we stopped it they came right back. I know Audrey's nose rope is big enough to contribute to the moisture being constantly trapped. I don't show her and we did eliminate the yeasty smell by putting her on a raw diet, so I don't do much about the stains anymore. She HATES HATES HATES her face washed and messed with, and since it's not sore or hurting her I am not going to be at her face constantly trying to clear it up. I really do hate it though and wish there was a magic solution. Oh and I tried bottled water and it made no difference.

Tear stains
I have been giving mine tums for the dark tear stains. I t definately works to get rid of the rust color by changing the ph balance in the tears. They will still have some stains but never rust colored. I give 1 tablet a day. Good Luck
