Tail socket troubles

I give Bunnie the once over everyday...
I check her feet, ears , toes, face wrinkles, genitalia and tail.
wipe her down and am assured nothing is infected, raw or has pee or
Poo on it...however for the last week I have discovered dark red mud looking gunk in her tail socket and a tiny bit in her ears.

Is this yeast? I clean and clean and everyday there seems to be more.
I read here somewhere about a home remidy for this-like vinegar or something but I can't find it now.
Don't get me wrong I will take her to vet if necessary however if it is a simple yeast infection I'm confident I can treat her at home.

Also pictures of new puppy Violet and more of Bunnie.

The red looking stuff is probably yeast. I use a mild

homemade solution of  white vinegar and water, about 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water and use a gauze sponge dampened with it everyday on the parts that have the red gunky stuff.  If it gets worse, then a vet visit might be in order to rule out other stuff.  Good luck.

What kind of food are you feeding?

I know I sound like a broken record, but our guys had a lot of tear stains and tail gunk and since they've been on grain free food, it's totally gone.  We are feeding Taste of the Wild pacific stream which is salmon and sweet potato.  There are a lot of grain free brands out there if you decide to try it if you're not already doing it.  You can clean the tail pocket with peroxide or malaseb sprayed on a cotton square.

Her food is not grain free.

I did put her on taste of wild lamb for about four months I switched her back because her hair turned hard and fell out to the point
She would leave mats of hair where she lay and she was about 70% bald all over. I'm a little afrade of the stuff.
I have been trying to find info on the raw freeze dried or dehydrated food but I can't seemed to find any info from real people.
thanks for the info. Bunnie is already less itchy.

Maybe try a fish based grain free food...

the oils really make for good, thick coats.

Yeast

It sounds like yeast and it usually comes from the grain in dog foods.  Look for a good grain free food and some also make treats that are grain free.  Bullies seem prone to this.

Next thing to do is make a 50/50 solution of  Apple cider vinegar with warm water and dip a cotton ball or use a gauze pad and wet it and wipe the ear.  Then follow up with drying the ear really well.   Do the same for the tail pocket.

I left you a message on the general forum also.  Keep asking questions.  There a great people here who have been down the same road and will be more than happy to help you.

It sounds like she has a very tight tail and you need to keep close on it and keep it clean or infection will set in. I have 2 females and one of them had to have her tail amputated due to constant infections in her tail pocket. My other female has a tight tail pocket also but I am able to keep it clean and dry. I use the Malaseb wipes or the rinse on a soft wash cloth. She doesn't like it, but she puts up with it!

Get Puff's with lotion, triple antibiotic ointment W/a pain killer, a good ear cleaner, and ear powder. Get someone to help you clean her, and do not use water. Use the ear cleaner w/ drying, I use Virbac Epi Otic. Ear stuff never burns and is non-irritating. After you clean her well and get rid of dead hair and goop, use the ointment and lots of it. About 3-4 days later, clean it with the puffs w/lotion, if there is no puss or blood, use the ear powder liberally, if not, use the cleaner and ointment again, repeat this until she is free of infection and the skin is healing. Put her on cephelexon 500mg, twice daily for 2 weeks.  Good luck with her.

check out Sojo's

it's a dehydrated food...my dogs really liked it, but we went back to kibble (natures logic) due to some other issues I was having with raw.
