Tail Pocket

Dinks tail pocket has always done pretty well. However now its got an odor to it and is slightly gunky. Can anyone suggest what to clean it with because what we have been doing isn't cutting it any longer and we want to keep him happy :) Thanks in advance

ACV

We use equal parts Braggs Apple cider vinegar and water. I have been using it for a yeastie nose roll too. Works great.

This would work.

What I do for Sophia is this:

I put her in my tub and get the shower head sprayer...luke warm water...spray tail pocket really well. Use a mild antibacterial soap and carefully but thoroughly clean the entire pocket well. Rinse well for a couple of minutes with sprayer. Make sure all loose hair and gunk is out. Dry well with paper towels...make sure pocket is totally dry, or as much so as possibly. I use Desitin Diaper ointment, you can use Gold Bond Powder or another diaper ointment, Desitin works best for Sophia. I spread a small dab around the inside of the pocket, as deep as I can get it. I make sure to cover any redness or places that look irritated. I leave it in there. I will check her pocket in a couple of days...but I try to let it alone long enough to have things heal up. I only do her pocket once a week now, and she does great. I used to have to clean it daily. Once I quit doing the baby wipes and stuff, it got less and less irritated...now once a week is plenty:-)

You can also use the apple cider vinegar after the soapy cleaning. Use a squirt bottle, such as a picnic ketchup or mustard bottle, to get the mixture into the depths of the pocket. Then pat dry as I mentioned and either use or don't use the desitin or powder. I would use something though to get the pocket totally dried out...that is what the Desitin does for Sophie...keeps that pocket dry for days:-).

A tail pocket....

Is located directly under the tail, especially in dogs with corkscrew tails or tight buns...if you slip your finger under the tail, there may be an indentation that can be as much as an inch or more deep. It can and will get infected and/or stinky if not cleaned regularly.

We have been cleaning with ACV the last couple days

and putting Desitin on it as well. Definitely helping with any smell that was there. Will update when we start to see improvements hopefully within the next couple weeks :) Thanks for the replys!
