I noticed last night that when Mojo was sitting on my arm, he left behind something wet. So of course I smelled it. It smelled like bread. So Im assuming that he has yeast in his tail pocket. I clean it everytime he goes out with baby wipes. But I guess he got it anyway. So I used about 5 wipes and cleaned it out really good. Ive looked on here for solutions for it but cant find the threads.
Does anyone know what works besides running to the vet? I cant afford it right now.
Thanks
Laurie
Hi Laurie. There are lots of good tail pocket remedies out there
This is what I do.
I have a pull down shower head in my shower. I out Sophie in the tub and spray her tail pocket really well inside with luke warm water. I use a bit of baby shampoo and clean the inside of the pocket out very well with my fingers, I always wear surgical gloves so I don't add bacteria! I rinse really well, then do it again, making sure when I rinse I get all around and under the tail itself and as deep into the tail pocket as it goes. Then I get her out and rub a dub with a towel until she is mostly dried off in adn around the pocket, then I use either a paper towel or a make up remover type cotten square, and dry the rest of the pocket as much as possible. Then I put a dab of Desitin Extra Strength on my still gloved finer, and rub it lightly in the tail pocket, making sure to get it as far around, under and deep as I can. I can do this once a week and Sophie stays clean and healthy in her pocket. If you have an existing problem, you can do this daily until the yeast is gone.
You can also use Apple Cider Vinegar as a final rinse, leave it in and dry as usual, making certain all is well dried. Then put some Gold Bond powder in the pocket. That works well also:-)
