Surgery questions
Submitted by averaste on September 21, 2010 - 7:53pmMy guy is 2 he is pretty healthy does have some ear problems nothing major he went for his 2 yr shots and the vets says he needs palate surgery, he does snore but at the vets he is really loud because he is excited. he is also going to get neutered at the same time. the price for both is 629.00 i know prices are different all over but does this seem about right. She also wants to do a tail amputation for 737.00 not at the same time.i dont know if i will have the tail done i keep it pretty clean with and dry but she says i would be suprised at whats under there
Anyway the 629.00 covers the alteration procedure laser the soft palate resection w/laser a blood screen and the meds say torbutrol iv,buprenex iv pain relief,tramadol does all this sound right to you all. this vet says she has had bulldogs and knows them well but is not a bulldog specialist and i just worry about my guy. also he is 56 lbs he lost 2 pounds in 6 months but he looks nice and is healthy he eats well.

but if you are not 100% positive your dog needs the palate surgery, I would get a second opinion before you do it. I know when my vet ever discusses any kind of surgery he feels there shoud be #1: a real quality of life issue or a danger to their life and #2: the surgery should offer a very singnificant improvement of quality of life or save the dog's life.

Had two of mine done at specialty vets, (palatte) that sound about right. The tail amputation, I just had done with one and it cost me $300.00. This was my personal vet, who breeds bulldogs too. He did a great job and JAckson came out of the surgery well, walked out the door of the office and promptly pooed, no after affects at all, The best thing I ever did. BUT, no pun intended, he had trouble with his tail for a year, and was very ornery with it, coulnd't clean it he was very protective over his bum, and tried to bite me when I cleaned him the last time, it bled all the time, and just was very sore. He is still a little protective, but I am touching the area all the time to desitize the area.
