Hi, Lulu my 18 month old suffered a stroke three weeks ago [paralysed in her hind quarters] and is recovering but I am trying to help her as much as possible without having her overdo it as her vets have said she is very determined.
Just dropped her at Hydrotheraphy on my way to work this morning.
Has anyone any guidance on helping her to recover, skincare - she is incontinent at the moment and a rash is developing, houstraining an older dog.
We have been messaging her legs regularaly also.
Many Thank,
Kevin
Oh I am so sorry to hear about Lulu. I have
no advice, but it sounds as if you are diligently caring for your girl.
I'm sure others will have some encouraging suggestions for you.
I hope she gets better quickly!
First of so sorry to hear this about Lulu
What does the vet say brought this on? Have they given you and proticol to follow for rehab. or is it wait and see?
I think the water rehab is great it will gently help her gain muscle control agian. Also your massageing her is good. I'm sure it feel good to her. If your vet didn't give you any thing to follow for rehab. I would get on line and do some research on your own.
Hugs and kisses to Lulu. I will pray for a full recovery for her.

i would
add some accupuncture...i do it for my three sb dogs...and i believe it helps.....hydrotherapy at this time is the best....i use pull ups (diapers) for my incontintent girls keeps them clean...desatain cream same as for a baby rash .u can use for your dog. ..baby powder is good....
their are good harness that you can use...they have a handle in the middle of the dogs back.....to support...look at the one they use for her hydrotherapy....
18 months is awful young for a stroke,,,,have you checked her heart in case of a blood clot?? did it happen after vaccines within a month ???
good luck will keep her in my prayers.....
Yes, it happened about three weeks after her vacinations.
Lulu, had her vaccinations on the 3 June and suffered the stroke on the 26 June, I never though that they may be related - is there a link?
The specialist said that they had no explanation as to why this happened and were surprised in such a young dog.
Thank you for you suggestions on the creams, I will try to get them at lunchtime today.
i believe yes
we vaccinate our dogs to much....do not vaccinate again...do a titer in a year...no more vaccines thats way to young to have a stroke....add some fresh fish like salmon and sardines to her diet...fish oils are very essential....vit c is excellant also....i would look into some home cooking...and getting away from the chemicals in your kibble for a while...build up your immune system.....
if you need some food ideas let me know and i will give you a list of good foods to add to her diet.....
i would also not use any flea applicaions to her.....
keep us updated
Our prayers go out
My family will add Lula and your family to our prayers and please keep updating.
hug and smooches to Lula

Thank you for your suggestions
I would be grateful for some receipe suggestions, we have a receipe book for her but it only covers making healthy treats not full meals.
She is making good progress and urinated by herself today which her vet was waiting to tell me when I collected her this evening.
She is not sound asleep after another day of hydrotheraphy and being spoilt by the nurses.
