Oh, another issue!! I'm at a loss as to what to do. I can't figure out why my sweet Gemma smells SO bad! She is getting a bath 2 times per week, even on the way home from the groomer she stinks! Ive tried to rule out what it could be...I get her anal glands drained weekly, her ears are good, wrinkles don't seem too bad.
We have had serious food allergies. Now (until I figure out a better solution) she is on the royal canine hypoallergenic so she she should not be having allergy issues. I've tried to pinpoint the smell but it's her whole body!!
The only other thing she is having is a small piece of American cheese that I give to her with her seizure meds.
Also, even with the hypoallergenic food she is
Licking and scratching. What to do, what to do????
Help!!!
Thanks
Lisa
Vet
have the vet check her over, Could be some kind of skin infection or something. Hope you figure it out!
What does it smell like? Yeast? or?
have you checked her mouth??
She might have an infection in her gums or perhaps a problem with one of her teeth...that could be part of it. It could also be from the medication she's taking...I know that when I have to take certain meds that I smell weird. I figure if it happens with people it's possible it could happen with dogs. I'd recommend googling her meds and see if anyone else has noticed a "smell" when their dogs take it...
However, I do agree with Lisa, it's probably time for another trek to the vet to make sure the smell isn't a symptom of something serious.

My swimming bully buddy!
what stinks....
the mouth? the skin itself? the ears? the tail pocket? body odor is not normale for a dog...can you pin point the odor better....bulldogs do have many areas where odor can be a problem.....
i would say the biggest odor problem is the tail pocket...
also i would no bath so often....and what are you using to bath in?
The first thing you need to do is..
change foods. That is a particularly crappy food, I tried it once for Chester and he got yeasty and smelly in no time. Look for a grain free food, maybe fish based like Taste of the Wild or Natural Balance. It will make a big difference and remember it can take 6 weeks to see a difference from a food change.
This is my 5th food that I
This is my 5th food that I have tried, I agree the regular royal canine was terrible. This is special that the body can't sense the type of protein so in turn she has no allergy symptoms. I live in china and I just brought 2 bags of natural balance back and she had a reaction after the first day.
Hard to explain the smell..just like stinky dog!!
Sorry, I didn't realize you were the one who...
can't get food in China. Would it be possible for you to cook for her for a few weeks and see how she does? You could try boiled hamburger or chicken along with rice and maybe some green beans. We did this for Chester when we couldn't get him on adult food without stomach upsets. Our vet said it was nutritionally complete, we added a pettab daily. Maybe it would be easier for you to get meat or chicken than kibble. Just a thought.
That's ok. Everything is
That's ok. Everything is difficult for me to do here!! I'm going to try to give her some beans, chicken and rice tonight. I'm just not sure of the amount to feed her. Also, should I include the rice? Someone else gave me a cooked recipe and it was just chicken and veggies.
When we first got her she was on a Purina lamb and rice blend. She did well with this and then they started to make it locally and who knows what they were putting in it. I originally thought she had a grain allergy but now I don't know. I'll try the rice first and see.
Someday I'll get this all figured out!!!
taste of the wild
My Angel had skin issues from the time she was about a year old. I started going to grooming school and we had a lecture on diet and nutrition. What are you feeding her? I changed Angel's food to Taste of the Wild no grain food and I have not had another problem since. I was always the person to say oh its not the food but now I realize it has a lot to do with skin issues. Purt her on NO GRAIN and I bet the skin issues go away within 3 weeks. Good luck. rice is a grain so don't give her rice.
