Stella's "IBD" acting up

Stella's tummy was doing SO well!  I am cooking a low fat diet for her and she's been thriving.

But for the last two/three days, she's getting soft stool again and she groans when I push on her tummy.  She's also kind of gassy.  And she's more restless, so obviously she's uncomfortable.  That said, she's still super interested in food and there's been no throwing up, like when she had pancreatitis....

I stopped giving her the Omega 3 oil I was adding and stopped giving her her old kibble as treats.  Thinking these were maybe upseting her tummy.

Right now, all she's eating is extra lean ground beef, red potatoes and green beans.

She's also still on flagyl and pepcid.

Any ideas of what else I can do for her.

If she's gassy...

maybe some GasX would help.  Poor girl, hope she feels better soon.  Usually the flagyl does the trick. We give our guys Slippery Elm every morning, it helps soothe the intestinal tract.

i think you need to change

a little... green beans can casue gas....and the red potatoe has alot of startch...i did some looking and i would have you look at honest kitchen...they do a ibd food and their is a new brand called tikki that does ibd diets...i think you would be better going in that direction....as the diet you have now really is not a wholesome one....or are you adding other things to this????    i have an incrediable recipe that i am going to find for you also.....its by a vet who deals in allergies.....and he is a miracle worker....this will work for ibd also.....

This is supposed to be a special diet for pancreatitis patients!

My vet gave it to me - she took it out of a book of specialized diets.  Mind you, I'm the one who added the green beans.  Maybe I should get rid of those - I figured they would give her some extra vitamins.  The diet does include bone meal and a multivitamin and some other stuff.  And I plan to add those also.  But I'm taking things slow to ensure she can tolerate the various ingredients before I add another.  I realize that, at the moment, it's not a balanced diet.

Please do send me the recipe you have, I'd be very interested.

Thanks, Judy!

try this diet....

this is from what icall my second bible...it is written by alfred j plechner dvm...and it was written in 1986....

their is one thing..i might suggest talk to your vet and ask to do a test for trypsin......this diet will help....and its very very easy and very complete

the recipe calls for...

2 cups of soy beans, brown rice, celery, and carrots........instead of the soy beans i always use the pre cooked soy flakes....

cook rice using 2 cups of water for each cup of rice....

mix cooked rice beans (or soy flakes) with the fresh vegetables (celery,carrots)... add a teaspoon of garlic powder for flavor....

bake it as a loaf for one hour at 350 degrees.....feed twice  a day according to the amount you would normally provide....

if you use soy beans soak beans over nite pour out old water in the am..cover with fresh water boil till tender.....

try this diet for two weeks...trust me in the improvement.....

tryspin defiency can be helped with supplements...but you need to first test for it...and many dogs with ibs are low in tryspin.....

but anyway this is a easy diet.....i make small meatballs as a treats becasue you have to stick to this diet...you cant cheat.....no meat for two weeks....untill an improvement has been seen......

Celine....you and I should start our own forum...

since our dogs seem to be the same!

Cain just developed an "upper GI" problem where he would lick the air (or catch flies).  My vet gave me "Gastrisoothe" and it is working really well....

He groaned when she pushed on his stomach too but we don't have runny stools.  He seemed to have like a reflux issue.  Just thought I would pass on any gastro information I have learned : )

ps - vet said....

he will develope pancreatitis if I did not switch his food so now he is on Natural Balance Vegan formula like Friday.  He seems to be doing well on it.....
