Spaying question

I'm getting my 10 mo old spayed next week. I have 4 steps down to the backyard and I was wondering if anyone had a dog that had problems with steps after spaying. Also how long was the recovery? I have only had males before this so I thinking it will be worse for her. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had no issues with Rocco

when he was neutered the day I took him home he was real out of it and didnt want to lay on his special spot but the next day he was seriously back to his same frantic self...it was not about him being able to do somethign because of the stitches but was more of me trying to keep him from getting crazy and tearing his stitches.  I am not sure if it is different with a female as the procedure is a bit more intrusive.  He had no issues with stairs though, I did lift him up to get into the truck and stuff...just gotta make sure they dodnt play too rough.

3 years old - spayed

We had our rescue Bully spayed at 3 years old.  He had no issues, it was trying to keep him still that was more of the issue.  He rested first day then was ready to play.  He got in and out of my vehicle/Explorer with no problem.  It's keeping them to not play that may be the problem.  He should be good to go.

good luck

Boomer, 7yrs; Diego, 6 months

Zoey was just sleepy after

Zoey was just sleepy after she was spayed. The vet did tell us to take it easy on her, as far as playing, for about a week or two. She loves to play, so we did try to just keep her quiet at least that week. As far as stairs go, for the first couple of days I think I would try to minimize going up and down stairs. But see how it goes...some girls bounce right back after their surgery...

A few steps should be fine...BUT

I would make sure she doesn't run up and down them.  So I would personally recommend leash walking for 10 days until the sutures come out.  You need to pay close attention to the incision to make sure it doesn't get infected and heals. One she starts getting scabbies on the sutures you can use a damp warm compress to help lossen them, but becare not to pull any of the sutures.  The incission will itch while it heals.  She may need to wear a party hat (cone) although most bulldogs can't reach around to that area of the incision.  Any bleeding, puss, bubbles, lumps, etc. should be seen by the vet.

Cleo's incision opened up after 4 or 5 days so she had to be taken back in for a few staples and antibiotics.  She had a little trouble healing.

I personally think they should be sent home with a round of antibiotics just in case.  But I guess not all vets do that, mine didn't so I would check with your vet.

Best of luck!

Neutering vs Spaying

Typically neutering is much easier on the male then a spay is on a bitch so the 2 are hard to compare. A spay is much more invasive.  Sorry boys :0(...you can try to get sympathy but it isn't going to work, LOL!  Unless a testical is not descended.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback. Fingers crossed she will have an easy time. She is very bouncy so holding her back will be tough.

Hi..you have probably already had the spay done by now but...

I had my Gemma done when she was around 9 months..just last month and she did fine. She had no problem with the steps up to the house from outside either. The biggest issue I had was that her stomach is so fat that it put a lot of pressure on the stitches so they looked bad for about a week. As soon as they were removed she was fine. Hope this helps!
