We took Atlas in to the vet to have his breathing checked out. He seems to get overheated and out of breath so easily the last few months. We thought it was due to the really hot weather, but even with the cooler temps we have had, he still pants alot and takes awhile to recover his breathing after play.
Vet thought elongated soft palate. Said his nostrils look fine, but he would probably need surgery on his larynx and palate.
She called MSU vet hospital and they provided a "worst case" quote of $1500-$1700 for palate, larynx & nostrils.
Does this estimate seem extremely high? I did some searching on the forums and it seems some have had it done for as little as $500. Just curious of others' experience and whether I should look elsewhere for another surgeon.
Thanks for the help.

I would do some looking around. Do you have any breeders in your area you can consult for a referral? Bulldog club could be helpful as well.
