Sneezing uncontrollably

I took my bullie to the park tonight.  As they sometimes do, he stuck his nose way down in the grass at one spot.  Within a few minutes, he began to sneeze rather uncontrollably.  He continued doing this off and on for over an hour.  I called the Pet ER and they said to give him some Benadryl and if he did not get better within 30 minutes to bring him in.  I gave him the Benadryl and he's sound asleep now.  It seems to be better, but I'm worried about what he may do when he wakes up.  It scared me pretty bad.  Has anyone else ever had this experience?  What do you think caused it, and what did you do?

Hopefully the Benedryl did the trick.

Just an allergic reaction to the grass, or he could have even gotten a bug in his nose:-) Or maybe dirt, grass....If all is well when he wakes up I would not worry about it.

Thanks for the response

Thanks for the response AmyandSopia!  Actually, the Benadryl helped him sleep all night without sneezing.  But when he got up this morning, he started doing it all over again.  So I took him to the pet emergency clinic.  The doctor did a thorough check - including looking in his nasal cavities.  She said that it could be anything from a foreign object way up in the nasal cavity, to allergies, to irritated nasal passages from something that he inhaled.  She prescribed a light steroid dosage and told me to continue the Benadryl.  He is MUCH better this evening.  In fact, he hasn't sneezed in about 4 hours now.  A little bit of clear discharge coming from both nostrils.  I'm thinking more that it could be an allergic reaction to something.  His nose always tends to be a bit stuffed up in the morning.  So I'm hoping for the best tomorrow.  I'll do anything to make my buddy feel better!  Thanks again.  This website and message boards have been invaluable to me in taking good care of my boy.

I agree, probably just a reaction to something inhaled.

It could have left a residue that he later reacted to, but with the discharge, it is hopefully coming out now:-)

Glad to hear he is feeling better, these guys can scare the poo out of us bully lovers!
