Hi eyeryone ! I am new to the forum, I've been reading all of your posts since we brought home our bulldog in March but just now decide to join. Here is a picture of my beautiful girl, her name is Nola, after the fine city of New Orleans.
The picture is few months old, so her head is fatter now, along with the rest of her :)
Now down to business; We've know since we brought her home from the breeder that the eye on the white side of her face would give us problems, when she gets tired and cranky, it gets red and blooodshot. In the past 2 weeks or so her cherry eye has started popping out around the same time when it would normally just get red and irritated, but it will pop back in on its own when she goes to sleep. My fiance and I have been researching our options and have decided we want to get it snipped out. Here's my question, it doesn't seem to bother her and her eye is still producting tears, how long should we wait to have it done? If it matters, she's 7 months old.
Thanks!
Jenn
If she's the Queen of Mardi Gras, what does that make me...?
Cherry eye?
In my opinion, if it stays in more than it is out, I'd wait. Her head has a lot of growing to do yet and it's quite possible that before you know it, it will stop appearing like that without any surgery. Get some plain antibiotic eye ointment to help in massaging it back in when you see it. Good luck!
Agree - Also it could be a blocked tear duct
that can cause cherry eye. I have used an eye ointment if I suspect this might be the case. Mackenzie and Norbert both would have a cherry eye pop when they were young...less then a handfull of times. After 7 and 11 1/2 years neither one of them needed surgery. If it pops out and stays then yes you will need surgery. Might want to consult your vet for an ointment like Micki mentioned. I believe I use Optimune but I would have to check at home to be sure.
BNP ointment is good too

OT - Comment & Question
She's beautiful! And what kind of camera are you using? It takes a great picture!
thank you all
Thanks everyone! We went to the vet on Saturday and got eye drops and some great advice from Nola's vet.
My camera is an Olympus E-30 that picture was shot with a 70mm prime lens. Nola is such a ham, she sits pretty and poses everytime I pull out my camera!
