My bully has allergies of sorts and now we have "scaley patches" all over, mainly on his back, We went and got antibiotics which did clean it up for a couple of weeks. I was wondering if any other unfortunate bully mom has dealt with these scales, Doc and Dozer said they itch terrably! Any suggestions on trying to beat this? We do have special shampoo but how often can or should I bathe him?
Sometimes food can play a part in skin problems...
what are you feeding him? Grainfree foods are best, we use a fishbased (salmon) for our guys and their coats are beautiful.
We are using Nat. Balance,
We are using Nat. Balance, Sweet potato and duck, grain free everything, he has supplements for skin and I squeeze in salmon oil occasionally. Doc says I have to descale him so he can heal, it bleeds and breaks my heart does this hurt him? He seems to like it but I would like to see it go away!:)
Skin Issues
I know what you are going through...
Unfortunately, most of the time it is there food. We used Natural Balance-Vegetarian for our Bully Angus...he had Ammonium Stones at the age of 2, so he was forced to be vegetarian. Bubba, on the other hand, was Raw Feed due to Yeast, but was on Royal Canin and other dry food up until he had yeast break out. That is a nightmare and not an easy fix.
One day, I was bathing Angus and found two little bald-dry patches of scaly skin, which we had not experienced with him...so we went to the vet, as we did not want it to get out of control. The vet told us that normally it is food allergies, due to the fillers in dry food, yes even with Natural Balance (I was shocked). She recommended us incoroporating raw diet, but Angus was not allowed to have proteins so he was put on a hypoallergenic diet. Bubba was weaned over to Raw Diet (Darwin's Raw) because his yeast was out of control. We rescued him with this issue. We did not know how extensive of treatment came along with it, but quickly learned and loved him so we did not care.
My advise is don't wait to long, because it can quickly get out of control. I will say this...Bubba was absolutely BEAUTIFUL from head to toe...the RAW Diet did wonders for his skin and coat. Unfortunately, we know that Bubba did not come from a reputable breeder, out of Las Vegas, Nevada, so we did not know the full story behind his health (or was not told the truth when we rescued him) so he was only 4 when he passed on Saturday. My research on this issue with our bullies, was the diet. Also, the doctor told us that a dog can have allergies, even if they have been on the same food for a long time, but can can take a while to show up. I hope this helps.
Thank you
