Bubba is now 4 and 1/2 months and I have noticed over the last week some changes in him. He had a small patch of fur missing on his head just above his eye. A few days later I noticed another patch above his other eye. A few days after that I noticed a small red bump under his front leg with a patch of fur missing. The bump seems to have popped and now has a small scab. His chin is really bad with " pimples". Any Ideas!! It almost seems like puberty. His diet, soaps etc have not changed. The only thing that is different is we have been going to the dog park regularly and to doggie daycare once a week.

I would take him to the vet and have his skin scrapped. It sounds very much like demodedic mange to me. Has he had his rabies shot recently???

Most likely Demodex. We usually wait to give rabies shots until after they are 6 months and not with their final set of shots at 16 weeks. All those shots and new homes, etc compromises the immune system and they can get Demodex. Start a supplement to boost the immune system and make a vet appointment for the skin scrap. BTW - Your vet will tell you it has nothing to do with the shots or rabies shots. Unfortunately with experienc breeders find that one of the big triggers for this is the rabies shot given at 16 weeks.

add in some cod liver tabs once a day...at 4 months the boy is having a few growth spurts....or give a couple of sardines a week...or some fresh salomon...both have great omega...no yogurt has to much sugar....

This is very interesting!! FINALLY I had a healthy bulldog..so I thought! I changed to the cooked food diet and everything was perfect. Gemma got her rabies shot monday and by today she was a wreck!! Itching like crazy, terrible tail pocket, red bumps everywhere. Maybe the shot is the issue???? The worst part is that i'm leaving on vacation today and I had to board her...crazy china vets probably don't have a clue!!!

the immunity system is shocked by giving vaccines....growing spurts..and in general stress that they come out and can be a problem....honey is the best immunity booster....so is cod liver tabs....vit c is great..... even sardines are good

a skin scrape is when the vet scrapes some of the skin and then places that under a scope to see if they can see and mites and what type they are....

Unfortunatly, we have also experienced demodex mange as a result of the rabies vaccine. it's nice to hold off on the vaccine, but most local laws won't allow it (for licensing puposes). A scin scrape and medication may very well be required, and we wouldn't put it off.
