Second Urethral Prolapse...prognosis??

Hi Everyone,

I've had a rough day, but not nearly as bad as Winston. Today he started spraying blood from his man part. Not just a drip or two, or a few seconds, but lasting for minutes and honest to God spraying. I've rushed him to see our bully vet...they think he's had a second urethral prolapse and are working to try to cauterize it as I type.

Some history: He had his first when he was approx 8 mos old. Rescue corrected that prolapse, and neutered him all in one go before he came to me. About 3 weeks ago he bled a little bit but after getting him (and the floor) cleaned up and calmed down he did not show any signs of pain or bleed anymore.

My question...what is the prognosis for him with this second prolapse? The first time they surgically "repaired" the prolapse...this time my vet is trying to cauterize. Does anyone have any experience with this? What happens if it does not "take" again? Is there any potential further complications from this?

don't let them amputate his penis until you do more research.

I'll reach out to Elaine. And amputation is not even on the table to be discussed. My vet is well versed in bullies...I think it would have be life or death before he'd even consider that option...and even then he'd refer me to a specialist to consult on that possibility.
