Seasonal Flank Alopecia

Hi everyone,

My Zoey had SFA a couple of years ago, with patches of black skin on either side of her (and hair loss there as well). The vet recommended melatonin, and she was on it for several months. Since it had been several months and no improvement, the vet just thought it would stay like that. It cleared up and she has been fine with a great coat and no further signs of SFA, until now.

She is 3 now and we have not noticed hair falling out just yet, but we did notice her skin starting to turn black starting from her sides and belly. Her belly is almost completely black now. When she had this before, it was patchy, this time it seems to be taking over her whole body. Any suggestions?

Also, she is on Iams Naturals Chicken and Tucker is on the Eukanuba 30/20. From what I've read here, those foods aren't recommended by the members, it seems. Would switching the food help?

I don't believe a food change wood help SFA

But, those aren't foods I would reccommend. I suggest you get her thyroid tested as it can cause these symptoms.

I agree with Jacinda
