Runny stool when transitioning to new food

Hello! I've been slowly transitioning Tuffy to a new food and he's been doing fine but today I went 50/50 and he had some runny stool this evening. He doesn't seem to have gastro distress because he's as playful as ever this evening but as a neurotic bully mommy I worry. Is this just to be expected until I do the full transition? I can't really slow the transition process down since we have a limited ration left of the old food (and the current formula has been discontinued) I'm wondering if there is  the possibility that the combo of the two different foods is upsetting his tummy and that once he's on the new food for a while it'll settle down. This runny stool has only happened once but I'm just curious if this is just par for the course. I'm thinking of maybe cutting out his puppy biscuits/jerky treats until he's acclimated to the new food and perhaps putting him on Diabac for a few days as I  continue transitioning. (He can't have yogurt to settle his tummy because of lactose issues). I haven't transitioning him to a new food in over 6 months so I'm a little rusty on all this...

Thanks!

i can tell you this happened to Rex a couple of time

when we transitioned him. We've done it numerous times and are in the process of doing it again this week. You may want to slow it down a little, hold back on the treats just in case it is from them. Have you searched on line for the old food? Perhaps you could find a small bag to get. Some suppliers may still have it even though it is being discontinued. I usually transition over 10 days. starting with an 1/8 of a cup each meal the first day, 1/4 cup with both meals the second, and so on. If his stools get runny I either go back to the previous days ration or stay with the current days for an extra couple of days. One time we did have to regroup and find another food he could tolerant, because the new food we were trying was giving him hives.Wish i  could help more. Good luck!!!

Hey Tuffy!

Tell your mom to try some pumpkin!

That's the standard advice that comes from the Koph's mom!

The DiaBac will take care of it...

We had the same problem with Newman getting him off Eukanuba and onto a grain free.  I gave him two DiaBac and he was nice and solid the next morning.

Just gave him a dose!

I probably should have done it from the beginning...

Thanks!
