Not sure if this is part of the breed but Oliver constantly has a runny nose. Whenever he breaths through his nose it also sounds like hes spraying snot even though none is really coming out and at night time it gets really loud and he actually does have drainage that he always has to lick. Same in the morning, hes walking around constantly licking his nose. Its always clear, doesn't seem like an infection or anything. We give him a Zyrtec everyday to try to minimize allergies. Just wondering if this is typical. I've never brought it up to his vet because it hasn't ever excalated.
Not normal here
I have never had a dog that had a constant runny nose in 16yrs. I have also never given allergy meds of anykind to those 6 dogs in 16 years, with the exception of vet prescribed benedryl for Ester when she had a bug bite reaction. Personally I think we way over medicate and suggest the use of benedryl or some kind of allergy pill Cleo does get benedryl but not daily. Only as needed during high allergy season.
I would have his lungs checked, just to make sure he is clear. Then I would have a qualified vet with bulldog experience check his nares and palate.
I agree with Deb...
I would have his palate checked. Our boy Chester never seemed to have any symptoms of palate problems except that he would tire easily and then one day he overexerted and went into a crisis and we almost lost him. Normally an elongated palate won't get to that point, but I would have it checked, there has to be some reason that he's got this problem. Hope you get to the bottom of it!
