Okay, so here's my first official request for help! My 10 week old baby (who I've had for 10 days) came to me with a bit of a cold. The breeder had taken him to the vet and had received an antibiotic for his nose. He had actually transferred from Arkansas to Kentucky (from the Breeder to her daughter (who is a co-owner of the Bitch)) the week before I got him to help us not have to drive so far. They had determined his runny nose was from the stress of transferring and the temperature/weather difference.
Now, we've used all of the antiobiotic up and it's been a couple of days and he still has a clear discharge from his nose. Sometimes he hacks, I think he's clearing mucus from his throat. It seems to be worse when he wakes up from a nap as opposed to when he's running around and playing.
Any suggestions? I made another vet appointment for him for tomorrow at my vet. (Side note: I took him to the vet the day after we got home from Kentucky to have our vet look at him and I brought the antibiotic with me & the vet said he was in agreement with everything and that our pup looked good). Our pup has a healthy appetite - he's been eating great, I'm just worried that if I don't help him get rid of this runny nose that it will get worse. Am I being an over-reactive new bully owner? Any advice would be most greatly appreciated! Thanks
Sorry that I can't help, but
have you done a search? You may find others who have experience with this problem.
Kofi has a runny nose from time to time, but nothing that has seemed out of the ordinary.
Let us know what you find out.
Hugs to your sweet baby.
update
Vern's vet looked him over and said since he didn't have a temp and was eating fine and was very alert and active that she felt he was in the post-cold recovery time. She said just to watch if any of those things changed then to bring him in. I felt like a clueless semi-overreactive new mom, but the vet was very nice and reassured me and said it is always better to be safe then sorry.
Sidenote: I can't believe how quickly he is growing - he gained nearly 3 pounds in 1 week!!!! That seems like a really rapid weight gain. He is now just over 10 weeks old and weighs 13 lbs.
I'm glad you got a good report on Vern
He is just an adorable little guy! It is always better to be safe than sorry -- our Gus had something similar sounding when he brought him home. I do think that the stress of travel and change in home environment can trigger reactions. Sounds like Vern is tearing it up at meal time and that's always a good sign!
