He has been coughing a lot and sneezing and now is starting to snort out boogers that are thick and greenish. Is this a cold or something else? Can dogs get colds?Anything we can do at home?

Thanks for the messages guys. The discharge isn't a constant thing, just once or twice so far but the coughing is there. Rooney is going into the vet at 5pm today so think good thoughts =) It's so weird that he would get these symptoms one week after getting his updated shots for kennel cough.

Good you are getting him in today. It could be a negative reaction to the vaccine, or it could be he actually came into contact at the vets office with kennel cough virus.

Just got a call from Jenn and Rooney got an earlier appointment with his vet. Thankfully it was not kennel cough and just an upper resperitory infection/flu. she told us that he could have got this anywhere and it was just a random flu. she gave him a shot and he is on antibiotics for the next 10 days. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
Green is infection and time for a vet visit.
And I wouldn't wait much past tomorrow to go in. Coughing and green boogers aren't a good combination.

I second Amy's opinion
green is usually a sign of some sort of infection. I'm sending good thoughts to Rooney that it's nothing serious and the vet can nip it in the bud. :)

Kennel Cough can turn into pneumonia in a serious hurry.
