Hi everyone! This is my first time posting as I am desperate to do anything and everything I can to make sure Bella (my 5.5 month old EB Puppy :) stays healthy and has the best chance at recovering from her respiratory infection. Here's the situation:
After I took her into the vet 2.5 weeks ago (Mar 30th) for lethargy/clear nasal discharge & clear foamy vomiting he diagnosed Respiratory Infection & prescribed:
First Visit: Cefa pill - 250mg - Once/day for 10 days
Then, she seems to get better but after 14 days I took her back (Mar 13th) because she seemed to be sick again - still somewhat lethargic, hacking and then a new symptom of yellow disharge - appetite was fine, no vomiting
Second Visit he prescribed: Clavamox tablet - 250mg 2 times/day for 14 days. He said after that we'd do a culture test if it doesn’t get all of the bacteria.
In the meantime I was doing some research online & read this article HERE. I then questioned if we are treating her properly. I also came across this wonderful board realizing the power in numbers – many heads are better than 1.. especially as this is my first bulldog.
For now, she seems to be better for the short run (less hacking (maybe 3-4 times/day) and snotty nasal discharge. No Lethagy). However, I’m afraid we’re in what the article describes the temporarily gets better, then worse. The article even refers to Clavamox (which she is taking) saying it will seem to get better & then worse ultimately not working.
I’m scared and just want to make sure I’m not leaving any stone unturned and look back saying “if you had only thought of that sooner” as it’s now been 2+ weeks. Anyway, thank you so much in advance for your time and feedback.

Be careful w/ Over the Counter meds - *NO* 'D's
One part of the article says about MUCINEX - MAKE SURE ya do NOT get the Mucinex 'D'
"Mucinex cough for children is something else that works well with liquifying the mucous so they can easily extract it. Make sure to use childrens and not adult."
Everything I've seen about O.T.C. STRESSES 'No 'D's
Definately find a Bully Specialist (Look on the home page here, there are probably Vets within a decent distance to you that are familar w/ Bullies)
Please keep us updated, and post LOTS of pictures on the main forum too :) :)

Cephalexin and Clavamox
are routinely given for respiratory infections. Very common antibiotics. It is alos very common that 1 round might not do the trick, so another 2 weeks is perscribed. Baytril is also used and I belive a little stronger antibiotic. But unless a culture is done so the vet knows exactly what he is treating they usually start with first meds your vet perscribed.
Hope the puppy gets better with the Clavamox, which is what my vet perscribes 90+ % of the time.
Yes....
Clavamox was prescribed for our boy who had pneumonia a couple of years ago, and as Deb says, he had two rounds to clear it up. He was two years old at the time.
Good luck!
Hi, and welcome!!! Sorry, I do not have experience with
what you're describing, but wanted to tell you I hope your sweet puppy gets better!!!
I second what Rick said, (unless you already know your vet is VERY familiar with bullies
and their special needs, of course!)--- maybe you could find one on the homepage here that you
could consult with.....
....
Hugs, hope your sweetie gets better SOON!!!!
Our sweet Archimedes "MEATY" Bones (or as we say...boneSHHH!) ---born 11/28/08---- our first bullllyyyy!!!

Thanks for the messages so far! I will look for the vets recommended on the forum & it helps to know that this is common prescription and seems likely that we're on the right track so far. Any other thoughts welcome :) I'll try to get some more pics posted (when I figure out where). All the best! J&B
TOO CUTE :) Thanks !
