Removing folds on face?

We have a 12 week old puppy and we took him to the vet last week for an exam. The vet said everything was good, but he mentioned something about removing the wrinkle folds on the sides of his face when he gets older. We've never heard of this and were wondering if anyone knows anything about this or has any advice?

Thanks so much!

I would never do that to a pup...

some vets that don't deal with a lot of bulldogs would suggest something like that.  I would find a bulldog vet if I were you, there is a list of them on the home page by state.

My only advice to you,

get a different vet. No one removes the wrinkles on a Bulldog

your vet is looking for money

yes keeping the folds is a daily chore but this is one of but many things a bullie needs....and for a vet to say at 12 weeks he needs his folds removed...i would go some place else...

just me.....

This

Folds are one of the things that make a bullie.  That vet sounds crazy.

Thanks

Ok thanks. I thought that sounded strange. I've never had a bulldog before, but I don't see the point in removing them, other than not having to clean them. But we clean his wrinkles regularly and I'd rather continue doing that instead.

Thanks again!

At the rescue.....my exec director got a bulldog in....

that they removed his nose rope because the people that owned him did not care to keep him clean and it got infected.  There is no reason to do this, EVER....if you keep your dogs face/wrinkles clean and you will be fine!

It is your decision to stay with your vet if you trust him, but working with the rescue I have seen tons of bulldogs and bulldog vets.  Never has anyone EVER suggested something like this.

Please don't even consider that for your baby.....

Best thing to clean folds on face with?

I do trust our vet, I just don't think he deals with many bulldogs. But we are definitely not removing any folds or his nose rope. I also was wondering what the best thing to clean his wrinkles with is? We were told alcohol pads or peroxide. Is there something specific we should get?

baby wipes

i use baby wipes unsented ones then dry the folds and put on some sudocream.my boy is three and its worked well for us his folds have never been infected or gotten sore.
