Regurgitate small amounts of food/drool ..

Hello,

For a while now my boy Hurley regurgitates a little bit of food/drool  after he eats in the morning and some times in the evening.  It's not much, it's not everyday and he usually only does it within an hour or so of eating.  A lot of times he'll regurgitate and just swallow it back down without it ever leaving his mouth.  Other times he'll regurgitate enough that a tiny amount of food with mostly foamy drool will come out of his mouth (then he eats it back up ; ).  Just to be clear, it's no where near a full vomit where he empties his stomach.  He's only done that a few times in his whole life.

Has any one else had this issue?  I know that bulldogs tend to throw up more then other dogs, but I feel like this is becoming and issue (not to mention destroying my carpet ; (

He's been on a raw diet for about a year now and I know he used to spit up here and there when he was on kibble, but I can't remember how often.  I grind his meat and I feed it to him as a little meat ball which I'm thinking may allow him too eat to fast.  This morning for the first time I flattend his food in his bowl so that he had to take smaller bites and couldn't eat as fast.  Also, I was thinking of getting an elevated feeder for his food bowl to see if that would help.  Has anyone had any luck with those?

He did have his palate done when he was 6 months old.  The vet checked his palate again when he was neutered at 13  months old and said it looked good (i.e. hadn't gown any).   The only other thing I can think of is that maybe it's some kind of acid reflex thing.  Other then the spitting up issue, he's totally healthy.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again for your help!

I would try the elevated feeder as well...

And are you giving a Pepcid or similar just in case he does get a little acid going? That may be the whole fix you need. Since you had his palate done, I can't think of anything else...other than possibly speed eating.

Good luck I know others with lots more knowledge about this will be around to help, I hope they have some ideas for you that will help.

Our guy Chester was doing this after taking a huge drink...

he would spit up some of his food along with the water.  We solved the problem with an elevated water dish, he hasn't done it since.  Try to slow down his eating, and try the elevated dish as Amy suggested.

Thanks!

I bought the elevated rack thing this afternoon.  We'll see how it goes!

I have the exact same issue with my bully

I can relate with everything you are saying about what is going on with your bully. My 13mo old Sally does the exact same thing. I have tried everything, except the Pepcid because I wasn't sure how much to give. She is fairly small, about 31 lbs. If anyone has a suggestion, I will try it. I wasn't having any success with the slow down bowl, so I changed her food to My Perfect Pet (which she loves) and I hand feed her so that I can control how fast and how much she eats. This has helped a lot with the regurgitation, but she is still pretty foamy/frothy in the mornings; and then gets better as the day goes on. I wonder if the foaminess is from allergies or due to mucous running down their throats during the night while they sleep and snore. I am really stumped by this. She is relatively healthy; other than some eye issues which have been surgically corrected twice.

Does he drink alot before he

Does he drink alot before he actually starts eating? I had a similiar experience. One of my girls was doing the same thing esp in the morning and i come to realize through trial and error that she would start out gulping down her water before she actually started to eat her food. This would cause her to "spit up" quite frequently. Once I realized what was causing the problem I held her water back fom her until she ate about 1/2 of her food then I slowly introduced the water back back to her. The problem went away. Now.....a few years later, I mix her food in with her water at feeding time and she has never had the issue again! Good luck
