really nervous..question!!!

So i'm still new to the bulldog world, AND i've never had a girl dog before. Is is possible (or normal) for them to have a period or blood?? I was surprised when I saw blood on my carpet and that was where it is coming from...and the area is swollen. Gemma is 7 months now. Thanks, i'll try not to panic!!

Your girl sounds like she is in heat.

Very normal. Make very certain that no un-neutered male dogs are anywhere near her. And if you don't plan to show her, a spay should be in her near future:-)

For now you can find doggie diapers to keep the mess to a minimum.

Yep I would agree..most

Yep I would agree..most likely she is in heat. Just scan over her to make sure she doesn't have an cuts anywhere but my female went into heat right around that time too. You could tell because her vaginal area was discolored from her period and laying down. Just remeber to clean her and get her a cute pair of the dog diapers and that will help it not be tracked around the house. Oh and definitely stay away from unneutered males! Her scent will make them go crazy!

Thats what I was afraid of! I didn't want her to grow up so fast!! :( How long will the bleeding last normally? I'm supposed to take her to the groomer today, i'm hoping that is ok. Yes, we plan to fix her soon.

You can expect it last for about 3 weeks

Be sure to keep her away from unneutered dogs. You can buy her some doggie panties if you are concerne with the mess. Also, I would wait a couple of months after her season ends to do the spay.

That was my next question as

That was my next question as to when to do the spay.... How often do they go into heat? What are the other benefits of spaying other that not wanting her to have puppies? I'm sure there is a post on here for that somewhere! Thanks for the help :)

Every dog is a little different

Some bitches come into season every 6 months but others may only have 1 season a year. Spaying reduces the chances of mammary cancer and eliminates the risk of pyometra.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for your time!

These are panties for girls in season.  You put a sanitary napkin in them.  They stay on pretty well & help keep your rugs & furnature clean.
