Our 3 yr.+ bulldog has a yeast infection on his paws, back and ears..Took him to the vet who only gave him antibiotics-which made it worse, now the vet wants to do a steriod treatment plan..???I have switched his food to the grain-free Wellness Core, but it really hasn't had time to help, am giving him acidophilos as supplement to combat the yeast, bathing him in a anti-fungal bath wash, but the summer heat is upon us and I'm not sure what else to do...? Have read about a part ving/water mix, and even peroxide, but do not want to make it any worse. Max hates yogurt and isn't crazy about the extra weekly bath, but my daughter think the sun sits and rises with him..and me too. got to get him better, just leary of the vet. What else can we do..? Any suggestions?? Thank you for your time and any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Is this his first yeast infection in his 3 years?
Has he always been on the same food until now? Getting to the root of the cause is going to be the key to fixing the problem. Can you think of anything new, a new supplement? Has she been adding a new thing to his food?
Did the vet look under the microscope and say they saw bacteria?
PS
My old vet wanted to treat every issue of Onslows with steroids - it never fixed the problem and he doesn't tolerate the steroids well at all..
I had to switch vets and get a good bulldog vet to help me address the problem. My guy has seasonal allergies and is currently battling a bacterial skin infection brought on by his allergies (she could tell by looking at skin flakes under microscope). We are on Cephalexin for a month and antibacterial washes twice a week.
yeast infection
We had this problem also but we was at the time seaching for dog foods that was best for Freeney but also our pocket in seaching he had an reaction to on of the foods got the infection in his face folds and paws . Food we found best was taste of the wild salmon. Now as far as treating this my vet gave me ap pharmaseb spray we also used womens monistat cream . this was the stinky red yeast once we got it taken care of we shaved the facial folds and kept using cream this helped with the tear stains when the hair growed back . Since we changed to Taste of the wild food and now when we bath him we dry him well and use feminine powder to keep folds dry we havent had a problem hope this helps you and who ever else that needs it
