can someone post a couple days of their raw menu...I think I am doing ok, but just want to make sure I am 'balanced"
I was ready an article the other day and in that it talked about making veggie patties (raw veggies, eggs, some protien, added vitamins & minerals). It said this should be fed in one meal separate from the main source of protien (rmb's) and also that the veggies needed to be processed (ground to break up the cellulose? around the veggies because pets cant break that up)
The more I read on this the more I get confused and I always read how "easy" you guys think this is and I just keep getting more complicated!!!
Menu
Im sure you are doing great. Balance comes over time not daily. I was doing a veggie slop but 1 was not digesting it well. Then I turned to Sojo's veggie blend, but the same thing. So we just stopped the veggies. I do 16-18oz. of course ground chicken/bone divided into 2 feeds. Every day they get 2TBS. of organ meat to the am feed. Beef liver/kidney or chicken livers. I just bought a bunch one day and choped it all up and freeze in 8oz. containers. They get beef maybe every other week. whatever is cheap and on sale. 1 rib or marrow bone on Sundays. They are also getting some supplements (sea meal, omega 3 ) daily.
I use Sojo's too
thanks...
I feel so much better...I didn't realize that you could give organ meat daily in small amounts-I guess it just never occurred to me..duh!! I will try that
I also need to get some salmon oil to add too...
thanks again
Audrey's menu
we do not feed any veggies. She gets a total of 13 oz a day, divided into 2 meals (she is 41 pounds)
This am she got:
around an oz of chicken liver
around 3 oz chopped up chicken, probably quarters but I can't be sure of that, hubby handles it (this is how she gets her bone)
3 oz beef -again I have no idea what cut of beef, I just found it in the fridge all nicely cut into Audrey sized pieces.
It was a bit over the 6.5 oz she needs, but I rarely worry about getting it precise. She also got a squirt of fish oil, and her HeartWorm Free
Tonight she will get about 2 oz chicken and 4 oz beef, and a squirt of fish oil, and her HeartWorm Free
Yes the veggies have to be smashed in order for a dog to get any nutrition out of them. I don't bother with them, Audrey either throws them up, or they make her face itch.

My Raw Menu
I've been feeding our dog raw since around 10 weeks of age (she is now 2). I've come to the following menu through trial and error and experience on what works for us.
I get 20lb boxes of whole chicken backs from the butcher - fed whole as is (she gets two of these per day)
I also make the following "patties" which I use to supplement the chicken. This way she gets two sources of meat protien and all of her other vitamins etc.
Patties: ground beef (hamburger, chuck steak, etc. whatever is cheap and readily available)
I then blend using my blender whole eggs, veggies (whatever I have on hand) fruits, leafy greens, olive oil, omega 3 oils, apple cidar vinegar, melatonin. I mush that in with the ground meat and make hamburger sized patties and freeze.
Treats - on occasion she will get raw ham bones, meaty beef bones, turkey necks, fish heads or whole fish, elk bones, pigs feet and the list goes on.
Her main diet doesn't change. I've never had issues with, skin, eyes, hair, poop, yeast infections, tail pocket issues, etc. etc. etc. Maybe I'm lucky?? I feel for the people who have health issues with thier bulldogs. I'm certainly not saying that raw is the reason we have no issues, again - I think I'm lucky.
Hope that helps.

forgot to add
I also grind up liver or heart and add to the beef patties as well.
you feed 2% of body wt per day
right? So if Bean is 45lbs that would 9oz of meat per day? I have only been giving them around 4-4.5oz 2xday...I might need to up that?
Tonight her chicken leg was 4oz so I just gave it to her whole..she crunched a few times and down it went!!!
I also went to the meat locker (processor) today and got the chicken leg quarters for .60lbs. they are so nice and big, my hubby said they are eating better than we are..haha
I think this meat man will become a good friend with all my stops and questions-seems very helpfull
2% of 45lbs is 14.4 oz
the .9 you get when you multiply is the PERCENTAGE of a pound, which is 16oz. So you then multiply .9 x 16oz to get 14.4
45lbs x 2% = .9 (which is 9/10 of a pound)
16oz(one pound) x .9 (2% of 45lbs) = 14.4

forgot to say
the actual amount you need to feed will depend on your dog. You may find they need more, or less. Audrey was gaining too much so we gradually cut back. She's maintained this weight for around 10 mos now.

OMG...I must be starving them!!!
Mama Jo did lose at first, but put some wt back on. the girls seem to stay the same. But I will definately up their food-so glad I asked that!
