Raw again lol

I have had my 2 year old who had allergies up the kazoo....She has been on just raw chicken for an entire month.  I'm happy to say tear stains are gone , no chewing her feet and her coat is growing back very nicely.  After her litter of puppies she lost a lot of weight and no matter how much kibble I gave her she just wouldn't gain weight but has now put on some weight since feeding raw....She really looks like a totally new dog and full of energy. Question is what is next?  I am so nervous that I won't be giving her everything she needs to keep her healthy.  I did try her on ground beef but for the next 3 days she was back to chewing and her eye swelled up.  As soon as I put her back on the chicken she started improving so now what? Please help me to make the transition to raw as easy as possible.

Thanks

Roanne

Raw has truly been the subject

of the day.

If you pa rouse the recent posts, you will find how many of us began. There is great info, and some reading material recommended also.

Hope you find what works for you.

I always just plead with people to do their homework first.

Raw feeders are so enthusiastic, and we love to help when we can.

Hope the transition is good for your baby.

stay simple

chicken is the best and if she seems comfortable and doing great leave it.... you can try some pork see how that goes for a little variety....are you giving any bone? i use lamb ribs i give them a couple every couple of days.....liver would be good to add thats only 10% of your meal....i like chicken livers...a little green tripe added...go slow add a little at a time...

what are you doing besides the chicken...have you added anything??  i thrown in a whole egg including the shell as a treat....their are many things you can add...think of how you would like your dinner... sardines are  good once a week treat .....i use salmom once  week for the omega benefits..

just let us know...cathy adds lot of things to her raw maybe she will add some of her ingredients....

bone

I have been giving her bonless chk breast for 1 meal and then ck thigh for the other one.  I have given her some cooked liver every other day.  I want to try port but am not sure which cuts to give with the bone.  I also tried the ground beef but she immediately started to scratch horribly so cut that out.  She looks awesome.  Her white coat looks white again on her face.  Her tears stains are gone and her white feet are dry so I am really pleased.  She did poop out a pretty big bone.  I hope that doesn't happen again.

Thanks so much for listening.

I only feed meat

since Audrey is so sensitive, but she gets a variety. She gets chicken for bone, it could be whole chickens, leg quarters, breasts, whatever is on sale, but she does get it every meal. Then she gets some kind of boneless meat. Right now it's pork, but not sure what cut. She gets the roasts, butt and shoulder, and ribs, but she only gets the meat from them. She also gets London broil, beef tips/stew meat, and salisbury steak. Sometimes she gets ground beef, but not often, She gets chicken liver, beef kidney, and the chicken hearts/gizzards packs. Whatever is on sale, that's what she eats! Eggs give her NASTY gas, it's wretched. So it's a very RARE treat for her. We haven't given fish yet, but am thinking about it. Fish makes me nervous, with the parasites and tiny bones, and she cant' handle anything cooked.

Bone

So how often do you give her the chicken with the bone?

We all do it different, and I am fairly new at this

but I rotate.

This week Kofi has had ground beef with veggie glop, I always add raw egg if no bone in the meat. I may give her that for breakfast and a chicken back or two for dinner. I weigh, so she gets about 8 oz each meal.

Sometimes I grind the miss cut chicken breasts and add veggie glop and raw vinegar and then she may get that in morning and gizzards for dinner.

She probably gets some kind of bone in chicken almost every day.

In the beginning, I had to be very careful about raw bone in chicken, since she was such a gulper. Now she chews much more and I am relaxing some.

At present she is feasting on a center cut neck bone

Hope this helps. I'm sure others will have their suggestions also.

Audrey gets chicken

at every meal. It is cut up chicken, so it's the meat also. Then she gets her organ (am only) and boneless meat. The boneless meat makes up the majority of what she eats.

we are on raw, too

and i've noticed marked improvement with the exception of two yeasty back toe webs.

tonight there were some small fresh lamb chops on sale when i was at the market and I knew I'd forgotten to defrost a whole Nature's Variety patty, so I bought it and cut it into chunks. When she was done eating her 7 or so ounces (she's supposed to get like 14 oz per day) I gave her the bone and crossed my fingers. she crunched it down and now, like you, i'm paranoid about what's going to happen when it comes out the other end.

as far as proteins, matilda does well on pretty much everything but poultry. she gets lamb, venison, rabbit, and beef. she seems to tolerate the darker meats well. i'm trying to ratio the food/bone with a little veggie something (not a lot, maybe a few pulverized greens or something; she loves spinach for some reason) and as always a little sprinkle of probiotics and a pump or two of Grizzly salmon oil.

i did try once giving her a whole egg but when she went the next day there were a lot of tiny shell pieces...i wasn't crazy about that so I haven't done it again.
