Question RE. post-op surgery diet

Hi Everyone!

Question for all of you about what sort of diet I should give sweet little Maggie once she comes home from the vet's office after surgery.  This weekend was stressful and hectic with the poor girl and she had a pretty major surgery this Saturday.  Our vet ended up removing her left kidney and ureter (as well as repairing cherry eye in both eyes).  Since that's a pretty big surgery and I know she's probably been stressed at the vet I would like to help ease her transition "home" with a good and simple meal plan.

I had been giving her TOTW Pacific Stream kibble before she went in for surgery.  Should I continue to feed her that, or should I give her a diet of boiled chicken/hamburger and rice??  While the vet we took her to is amazing bulldog vet, he's kind of skeptical about the whole "fancy diet fad" so I'm not sure he'd be the best source for info on what to feed her for her first few days back at my place.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions are very welcome!

Thanks in advance!!

I wouldn't change diet

just because of the surgery, you could have upset tummy problems and diarrhea.  But you might consider adding hot water to the kibble and covering it for about 15 minutes to soften it.  The throat can get a little sore from the tube.

thanks!

I was thinking maybe just the "wet food" version of the kibble, but this actually makes sense more than giving her canned food.  I just want to help make her recovery as quick and easy as possible.

Sending get well soons to Maggie :)

I agree with 'softening the food' with a bit of warm water. Hang in there Ms Maggie :)

even feeding a raw diet i do a little change

your girl had some major work....and i would go for a couple of days of burger & rice...dont forget the yogurt..as i am sure thei are antibotics to be had...some tlc never hurt anyone...so some chicken soup would help also  make sure its low sodium

its not just the surgery...its a new home on top of everthing....and thats alot of stress.....

awww - poor little girl!!

hope she gets well soon!!
