Question about meds for Sophie

Sophie has a mild case of Kennel Cough. She has now developed a UTI to go with it. Even on more yogurt to counter the antibiotics, she still has gotten this UTI. I want to know what med to try. My vet is NOT a bully vet, but I am limited in my area. So, I generally advise her what to put Sophie on should the need Adminse. For this, I would like to know if Simplicef or Clavamox would be better...I have used both, but want to continue fighting the chest issues as well as the UTI issue. Or is there another drug I should look at? Vet said bring a sample but not sure if I can catch one...I just took Sophie out and then talked to the vet. Hope I can catch a little something to take in.

Amy, they really need to have a sample to...

see what bacteria it is.  Different antibiotics for different germs.  I used to follow Oreo around the back yard with a pie pan or a shallow plastic container and as soon as she squatted, I'd slip it under her to catch some urine.  Anything shallow will do, just make sure it's clean.  The tricky part is not spilling it afterward lol.

i always have the vet use clavamox

i use this for my male wilson as he is prone to urinary tract i use clavamox...three weeks  worth...

Amy I know with humans it doesn't do any

good to take live culture until after the antibiotics. They just kill the enzymes.

I don't know if it's the same with dogs.

I hope she gets better real soon!

I actually didn't know this....

I thought the yogurt helped counter some of the good bacteria being lost. Well, for right now I have her on double doses of ehr Cranberry pills with Vitamin C in them:-) Hopefully I can get rid of this without more antibiotics having to be in her.

Thanks, that was my guess as well.

I am waiting it out until Monday...treating it with home remedy until I see if it gets any worse. I caught it very fast...

Oh poor Sophie this might help the uti.

We put Rocky on Granberry pills and it worked,  I bought Vitamin Shoppe, Cranberry Action it has Vit. C plu E and Cranberry.  It corrects the ph in the bladder.

I hope she feels better soon.
