Hi all,
I had hubby to take my little princess to the vet today with a very runny red eye. He said she needs the surgery to keep her lower lid lashes from rubbing her eye. What concerns me is that he said he would do both eyes...but...the other eye has never had an issue with tearing or irritation. It would be 200.00 cheaper to have both done at the same time, but is that really the best thing for her. If the other eye is ok, should I go along with his recommendation? I'm just not wanting to cause any more discomfort than necessary for her. Thank you!

I would ask the vet to show me...
The vet should be able to show the the reason for the need for surgery on the other eye. If there's no problem, surgery could cause one.

Maggie, I suggest going to an Opthamologist
Does she have Entropian or Distichia? Entropian is when the lids roll in and Distichia is when the lashes grow down toward the eye. My girls have had both.
Ozzy
Ozzy had ulcer surgery in 2009. They also corrected his entropian in the other eye at the same time. He had his done by an eye specialist at Tuft's. While it was very nerve racking and a little expensive (thank heaven for insurance) it came out beautifully. His regular vet would not even consider doing the surgery. So I would also recommend a specialist if there is one in your area.

Did both
We had Moose's done in September for a bad ulcer in his left eye. We have the best vet and he recommended doing both will he was under even though he never had a problem with the right one. I am glad now we did it they came out great and healed up beautifully in a couple of weeks. I think it depends on the confidence you have with the surgeon. In our case it dramatically improved the quality of life for all of us.
