Putting puppy on raw diet

When I bring Phoebe home I want to start her on a raw diet. I have no idea how to switch her from the kibble she will be on to raw. How slowly to do  it. How much to feed her. How often. What the best meats are for puppies. Do I give her any supplements. do I feed her organ meats. As you can tell I am a total novice never having fed raw before and really need some guidance please.

I feed my dog a raw diet but

I feed my dog a raw diet but I am not knowledgable enough to know how to wean a puppy onto raw meat. Are you on facebook? There is a great group on there called "raw feeding friends". A raw feeder from BDW recommended it to me and it helped me out a lot. And several people on there are breeders so they should be able to tell you the best way to get a young puppy started. Good luck!!

raw feeding your puppy

the rule of thumb is  80% meat   10% BONE   and 10% ORGANS...... feed 3% of adult weight.......chicken is always the best to start with...dogs accept it...... with raw feeding i dont do any transition...raw is much easier to digets than kibble.....also for the first week till you get all the kinks out add a tablespoon of canned pumpkin.....keep your stools...no bones to small to just swallow and remember its only 10% of  your diet...thats not alot....their is also a great raw feeding group on face book...raw feeding friends.....great easy going group....

I'll add to Judy --- Definitely make sure

you are not feeding too much bone.  Start the raw with probiotics and watch to make sure the puppy is pooping  and that it isn't too chalky crumbly white.  You may get some nasty diarrhea in the first couple of weeks that is why Judy has suggested pumpkin.  I had 2 that got shooting diarrhea in the first 2 weeks and I had been feeding prepackaged raw for about 2 years.  Every couple of weeks I feed more organ/tripe mix to make sure they are cleaned out.  I had one get constipated and he spent 2 or 3 days at the vets getting violated (if you know what I mean).  He had hard bone poop compacted, lucky he didn't end up perforated.  With his I add water now to his food and he gets minimal bone.

Raw food

Would you be willing to share what brand  of raw food you're feeding

Thank you so so much...

for all your advice and suggestions. This is what I love about this site. No doubt I will have more questions later on but for now a big thank you.
