Puppy Threw up again tonight:(

Okay now Im worried... This is the second night in a row that my 16 week old thew up... I did not give much thought to it as sometimes dogs just throw up so I gave him a tums to settle his stomach.   The stranger part is he ate 6 hours before hand both times.  His stomach should be clear by that time I would think.   A little info about him and his eating habits.   He is aloud to eat as much as he wants twice a day.  His first meal is at like 2-4 in the afternoon and the second is at 4-6 in the morning.  He eats Royal Canine Med Puppy.  He also has a fairly large Hernia (the vet said not the inherited kind) That is pretty large and might need to be removed in the near future.  We were waiting till he was older to have it removed because it seems to be getting better (We massage it all the time)  He does not throw up at the second feeding so Im wondering if its he eats to much and plays so his food does not digest properly OR its that hernia.  I think a vet trip is in my very near future..  Im going to space put his feedings tomorrow.  Oh!  and his is not overweight so I that is why he gets to eat as much as he wants for now..

Up to about 6 months of age....

.....I recommend the puppies get 3 meals a day.  Definitely try to give him a biscuit in between those meals to help keep the tummy full.  I've had a puppy that needed surgical hernia repair that was done at 4 months of age, but he did not vomit, so I don't think that's his problem, but you never know so call the vet about it.  Also, the dog food doesn't always digest very fast----I've seen dogs vomit recognizable kibble 8+ hours after eating.  Good luck!~

I would feed him bland for a day or two and...

see if it helps.  Brown rice and boiled hamburger or chicken three times a day is a good bland diet.  I would also get him off the puppy food and find a better food, Royal Canin has a lot of not so healthy stuff in it and bulldogs don't really need the extra protein and calories of a puppy food.  We feed grain free salmon and sweet potato to two of our guys and grain free lamb to the other.  A food with one protein and one carbohydrate is best and one that has 25% or less protein.  That being said, sometimes they just hurl for no reason.  I usually give our guys a pepcid afterward and it seems to settle their stomachs.  If it keep happening or becomes more frequent, I would call the vet.

Agree with the others...but will add

that he should not play immediately after he eats.  I've read that they should have 20 minutes after meals, before playing.  I personally keep mine in their crates for about 10 minutes after they eat.

You always should see your vet, but my James

Barfed  A LOT as a puppy.  Sometimes he even ate it after.  Repulsive, but Dr. said it was OK if there were no other symptoms.

Oliver used to throw up as a puppy...

It ended up being his palate.  He had no other symptoms of an elongated palate and we had even had it checked (we go to a highly respected bulldog vet).  He would throw up hours after eating and then sometimes he would just randomly gag.  We had him neutered when he was about 1 year old and had our vet check is palate while he was under so he could get a really good look at it.  Sure enough, it was long.  So we had his palate done while he was under for his neuter surgery.  We haven't had an issue since.  Have your vet check is palate.
